Abstract Supramolecular chemistry is one of the exciting branches of chemistry where non-covalent interactions between molecules and the ensuing supramolecular structures have been studied for various applications. The present review provides a comprehensive outlook on the applications and potentials of supramolecular chemistry in corrosion and biofouling prevention. Reported works associating supramolecular chemistry with corrosion are systematically discussed under two sections: (i) surface coatings and (ii) corrosion inhibitors that include supramolecular polymers, host-guest inclusion compounds, organic-inorganic hybrid materials, and supramolecular structures of graphene, crown ethers, self-assembled monolayers, etc. Different strategies for making antifouling surfaces based on block copolymers/gel systems, host-guest systems, and metal-organic structures are briefed. Cyclodextrin and mesoporous silica-based host-guest systems are extensively discussed, as they are the most prominent materials of current research interest. Future potentials for developments are presented. The review is expected to be beneficial to enhance supramolecular chemistry-related research and development in corrosion and biofouling prevention.

Presently described are components of a spray application system. At least one component comprises a liquid repellent surface layer. The liquid repellent surface (e.g. layer) may comprise a porous layer and a lubricant impregnated into pores of the porous layer; a fluoropolymer; a fluorochemical material and an organic polymeric binder; or a fluorochemical material melt additive and a thermoplastic polymeric material component. The component is typically a liquid reservoir, a liquid reservoir liner, a lid for a liquid reservoir or liner, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, the component comprises a thermoplastic polymeric material. In some favored embodiments, the component is a removable liquid reservoir or liner. In some favored embodiments, the component is a collapsible liquid reservoir or liner. The spray application system typically further comprises a gravity-fed spray gun. Also described are spray application systems, methods of using a spray application system, as well as methods of making a component of a spray application system wherein the component has a liquid repellent surface.

The present disclosure relates to an FPOSS prepolymer which may be reacted with a reactive coating or a polyisocyanate and/ or one or more of a polysiloxane, a polyol, a polyamine and a reactive coating; an FPOSS polyisocyanate prepolymer which may be reacted with one or more of a polysiloxane, a polyol, a polyamine or a reactive coating; and an FPOSS siloxane prepolymer which may be reacted with a polyisocyanate and/or one or more of a polyol, a polyamine or a reactive coating to form cross-linked polymers capable of reducing the ability of ice to adhere to the surface of an object, in particular aircraft or other vehicles, methods of producing the prepolymers and polymers and their use in coating surfaces.

Three-dimensional objects are formed by photo-curing a liquid polymer by exposure to a radiation in a space between a sheet transparent to the radiation and a supporting plate. On a side of the sheet facing towards the photo-curing liquid polymer, a membrane is arranged. The membrane is transparent to the radiation and covered by a layer of liquid lubricant. The membrane is displaceable with respect to an area in which said liquid polymer is undergoing curing by exposure to the radiation, which radiation (e.g., at 410 nm) may be provided by a collimated light source composed of an array of light emitting diode (LED) sources, an array of baffles, and an array of lenses. The baffles limit beam widths of each individual LED source in the array of LED, and the array of lenses is located one focal length from said array of LED sources.

Method and apparatus for photo-curing with displaceable self-lubricating substratum for the formation of three-dimensional objects

The present disclosure describes a strategy to create self-healing, slippery self- lubricating polymers. Lubricating liquids with affinities to polymers can be utilized to get absorbed within the polymer and form a lubricant layer (of the lubricating liquid) on the polymer. The lubricant layer can repel a wide range of materials, including simple and complex fluids (water, hydrocarbons, crude oil and bodily fluids), restore liquid-repellency after physical damage, and resist ice, microorganisms and insects adhesion. Some exemplary applications where self-lubricating polymers will be useful include energy-efficient, friction- reduction fluid handling and transportation, medical devices, anti-icing, optical sensing,and as self-cleaning, and anti-fouling materials operating in extreme environments.
