TL;DR: An analysis of chromosome pairing in thirty-four artificially produced hybrids involving seven South American species of Epilobium (Onagraceae) and three from elsewhere has shown that the approximately thirty-five species of this worldwide genus have been derived from at least two separate introductions from North America, two from Australasia, and one or more additional introductions that could have been from either source.
