One or more techniques and/or systems are provided for provisioning encrypted key blobs and client certificates. That is, a trusted execution environment on a first machine may provide a key service provider with a cryptographic encryption key. The key service provider may encrypt a key blob using the cryptographic encryption key and/or wrap the encrypted key blob with one or more policies, such as a platform policy. The key service provider may provision the encrypted key blob to a client on the first machine. The client may submit the encrypted key blob to the trusted execution environment for validation so that the client may perform key actions, such as sign an email or encrypt data. Because the key blob may be specific to a particular trusted execution environment and/or machine, the key service provider may re-wrap the key blob if the client “roams” to a second machine.

A system for executing a virtual machine instance is provided. An executing environment (11) is arranged for creating a virtual machine instance (10). The virtual machine instance (10) comprises an instance authorization unit (1) for receiving an instance authorization credential, wherein the instance authorization credential is uniquely associated with the virtual machine instance (10). A data key unit (2) is arranged for generating a request for a data key, based on the instance authorization credential associated with the virtual machine instance (10). A decryption unit (3) is arranged for decrypting a data item (7) based on the data key. A key server system (6) is arranged for issuing keys to a virtual machine instance (10). An instance authorization providing unit (22) is arranged for providing the instance authorization credential to the virtual machine instance (10).

Secure data handling by a virtual machine

Techniques for security module endorsement are provided. An example method includes receiving a generalized endorsement key at a security module, wherein the security module is associated with a computing device and wherein the generalized endorsement key is independent of characteristics of the computing device, automatically extending integrity measurements stored in one or more registers of the security module with information characterizing the computing device, wherein the integrity measurements are based on one or more software processes at the computing device, digitally signing the extended integrity measurements with a digital signature, and generating a specialized endorsement credential as a combination of the digitally signed extended integrity measurements, the digital signature and the generalized endorsement key, wherein the specialized endorsement credential is used to validate authenticity of the security module.

A method and apparatus are disclosed in a data processing system for establishing virtual endorsement credentials. The data processing system includes a hardware trusted platform module (TPM). Logical partitions are generated in the system. A different virtual TPM is generated for each one of the logical partitions. For each one of the logical partitions, the virtual TPM that was generated for the logical partition then dynamically generates a virtual endorsement key, which is stored only within a corresponding virtual TPM. Using the virtual endorsement key, each virtual TPM also generates a virtual endorsement credential for use by the logical partition that includes the virtual TPM. The virtual endorsement credential is generated within the data processing system without the data processing system or its devices accessing a trusted third party that is external to the data processing system.
