Accumulation of O6-methylguanine in human blood leukocyte DNA during exposure to procarbazine and its relationships with dose and repair.
Vassilis L. Souliotis,Stella Kaila,Viki A. Boussiotis,Gerasimos Pangalis,Soterios A. Kyrtopoulos +4 more
TL;DR: The suggestion of a possible role of pro carbazine-induced O6-methylguanine in the pathogenesis of acute nonlymphocytic leukemia appearing after treatment with chemotherapeutic protocols which include procarbazine is supported, based on the finding of low lymphocyte AGT levels in patients with such therapy-related neoplastic disease.

Ubiquitous presence of O6-methylguanine in human peripheral and cord blood DNA.
TL;DR: Findings indicate that premutagenic methylation DNA damage is commonplace in individuals not known to have suffered excessive exposure to environmental methylating agents or their precursors and are compatible with an endogenous origin of this damage, possibly associated with endogenous nitrosation processes.

Personal exposures to PM(2.5) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their relationship to environmental tobacco smoke at two locations in Greece.
Panagiotis Georgiadis,M. Stoikidou,Jan Topinka,Stella Kaila,Maria Gioka,Klea Katsouyanni,Radim J. Sram,Soterios A. Kyrtopoulos +7 more
TL;DR: There was a significant difference in the profile of the PAH exposures at the two locations, the proportion of lighter PAH being higher, and that of heavier PAH lower, in Halkida than in Athens, regardless of season, demonstrating that ETS can have a distinctive effect on thePAH exposure profile of subjects exposed to relatively low levels of urban air pollution.

Development and validation of a new assay for O6-alkylguanine-DNA-alkyltransferase based on the use of an oligonucleotide substrate, and its application to the measurement of DNA repair activity in extracts of biopsy samples of human urinary bladder mucosa.
Vassilis L. Souliotis,Aris Giannopoulos,Ioannis Koufakis,Stella Kaila,Costas Dimopoulos,Soterios A. Kyrtopoulos +5 more
TL;DR: The new method is convenient, rapid and extremely sensitive (it can readily measure femtomole quantities of enzyme) and should prove useful for studies of the biochemical epidemiology of DNA repair.

Development and validation of a direct sandwich chemiluminescence immunoassay for measuring DNA adducts of benzo[a]pyrene and other polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
Panagiotis Georgiadis,Katalin Kovács,Stella Kaila,Paraskevi Makedonopoulou,Livia Anna,Miriam C. Poirier,Lisbeth E. Knudsen,Bernadette Schoket,Soterios A. Kyrtopoulos +8 more
TL;DR: A sandwich chemiluminescence immunoassay (SCIA) which measures polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)-DNA adducts combining high throughput and adequate sensitivity, appropriate for evaluation of adduct levels in human population studies is developed and validated.
