Laser Development for Sodium Laser Guide Stars at ESO
TL;DR: A breakthrough in the development of sodium laser guide star technology at ESO was made in 2009, which led to the implementation of a narrowband Raman fiber laser emitting at the wavelength of the sodium lines at 589 nm with demonstrated power beyond 50 W.
The Four-Laser Guide Star Facility: Design considerations and system implementation
Domenico Bonaccini Calia,Wolfgang Hackenberg,Ronald Holzlöhner,Steffan Lewis,Thomas Pfrommer +4 more
TL;DR: The underlying physics and technical considerations relevant to adaptive optics systems before discussing the design of the four-laser guide star facility (4LGSF) which is currently under development for the ESO Very Large Telescope (VLT) on Cerro Paranal, Chile.
