‘Gentlemen, all aboard!’ ICT and party politics: Reflections from a Mass-eParticipation experience

End-User Development (EUD) studies how to empower end users (among which, e.g., professionals and organizational workers) to modify, adapt and extend the software systems they daily use, thus coping with the evolving needs of their work organizations and the shop-floor environment. This research area is becoming increasingly important also for the cross fertilization of ideas and approaches that come from the fields of Information Systems and Human-Computer Interaction. However, if one considers the variety of research proposals stemming from this common ground, there is the risk of losing denotational precision of the key terms adopted in the common vocabulary of EUD. To counteract this natural semantic drift, the objective of this paper is to distinguish within three EUD complementary important notions, namely activities, roles, and artifacts, in order to help researchers deepen important phenomena regarding the “meta-design” of systems built to support EUD practices.

Smart City is a recent topic, but it is spreading very fast, as it is perceived as a winning strategy to cope with some severe urban problems such as traffic, pollution, energy consumption, waste treatment. Smart city ideas are the merge of some other more ancient urban policies such as digital city, green city, knowledge city. A smart city is therefore a complex, long-term vision of a better urban area, aiming at reducing its environmental footprint and at creating better quality of life for citizens. Mobility is one of the most difficult topic to face in metropolitan large areas. It involves both environmental and economic aspects, and needs both high technologies and virtuous people behaviours. Smart mobility is largely permeated by ICT, used in both backward and forward applications, to support the optimization of traffic fluxes, but also to collect citizens’ opinions about likeability in cities or quality of local public transport services. The aim of this paper is to analyse the Smart Mobility initiatives as part of a larger smart city initiative portfolio, and to investigate about the role of ICT in supporting smart mobility actions, influencing their impact on the citizens’ quality of life and on the public value created for the city as a whole.

Di era demokratisasi saat ini yang bercirikan adanya kebebasan berpendapat setiap warga baik secara lisan ataupun tertulis, maka fenomena hoax menjadi satu hal yang harus menjadi perhatian bersama. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian survey. Proses penyebaran berita dalam media sosial banyak melibatkan kaum perempuan. Hanya sebagian kecil saja yang mengakui sering mendapatkan berita-berita hoax tentang suku, agama, ras, dan antar golongan (SARA). Dengan demikian, maraknya penyebaran berita hoax di media sosial merupakan satu bentuk pembodohan masyarakat dan  respons terhadap kemunculan berita hoax dengan cara melakukan tindakan perlawanan. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this democratization era characterized by the freedom of speech belongs to every citizen both written and spoken, the hoax should be considered seriously. It was a survey research. The spread of news through social media was conducted mostly by women. It was only small numbers who reported that they had received hoax relating SARA. Therefore, the spreading of hoax through social media is a kind of fooling and their response is through counter-narrative.
