Safety evaluation of masonry arches. A numerical procedure based on the thrust line closest to the geometrical axis
Giacomo Tempesta,Stefano Galassi +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a numerical procedure for computing the full range of equilibrium thrust lines in masonry arches is presented, and the two limit thrust lines, corresponding to the upper and lower bound of the range, are finally used to compute the degree of safety of an arch through the identification of a domain of equilibrium states and the Heymanian geometrical factor of safety, revisited in the form of a performance factor.

Experimental and analytical investigation of bond behavior in glass fiber-reinforced composites based on gypsum and cement matrices
TL;DR: In this paper, an innovative composite, formed by a glass fiber net embedded in a gypsum-based matrix and aimed at strengthening masonry structures, is proposed, which shows higher peak loads and a more brittle behavior compared to the response of the standard FRCM system.

Seismic analysis of masonry voussoir arches according to the Italian building code
Francesco Pugi,Stefano Galassi +1 more
- 01 Jan 2013
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed an approach to perform seismic verification based on an algorithm devoted to this topic, where the apriori choice of failure interfaces is avoided, as it is possible to individualize the kinematism and its related collapse load factor.

Pompeii’s Stabian Baths. Mechanical behavior assessment of selected masonry structures during the 1st century seismic events
TL;DR: The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD buried and preserved the Stabian Baths building in the exact configuration which the archaeological excavations carried out in the second half of the 19th century as mentioned in this paper.
