Developmental origin of chronic diseases: toxicological implication.
TL;DR: The rapid introduction of synthetic chemicals, environmental pollutants and medical interventions, may result in conflict with the programmed adaptive changes made during early development, and explain the alarming increases in some diseases.
Semisynthetic quercetin-quinone mitigates BV-2 microglia activation through modulation of Nrf2 pathway.
TL;DR: The present experimental data predict a preventive and therapeutic potential of semisynthetic derivative CHNQ in ageing and related pathologies, mediated by activation of proteins of the antioxidant response.

3-Mercapto-5H-1,2,4-Triazino[5,6-b]Indole-5-Acetic Acid (Cemtirestat) Alleviates Symptoms of Peripheral Diabetic Neuropathy in Zucker Diabetic Fatty (ZDF) Rats: A Role of Aldose Reductase.
TL;DR: Investigation of the effect of a novel efficient and selective aldose reductase inhibitor, 3-mercapto-5H-1,2,4-triazino[5,6-b]indole-5-acetic acid (cemtirestat), on symptoms of diabetic peripheral neuropathy in Zucker Diabetic Fatty rats indicates that inhibition of aldosing by cemtirestat is not solely responsible for the recorded improvement of the behavioral responses.

Protection of the vascular endothelium in experimental situations.
Ružena Sotníková,Jana Nedelcevova,Jana Navarová,Viera Nosáľová,Katarína Drábiková,Katalin Szöcs,Peter Křenek,Zuzana Kyseľová,Štefan Bezek,Vladimir Knezl,Ján Dřímal,Zuzana Broskova,V Kristová,Ľudmila Okruhlicová,Iveta Bernatova,Viktor Bauer +15 more
TL;DR: Administration of SMe1EC2 significantly decreased endothelaemia of diabetic rats and improved endothelium-dependent relaxation of arteries, slightly decreased ROS-production and increased bioavailability of ·NO in the aorta, and this provides support for the use of antioxidants in the development of late diabetic complications.
Triglyceride-lowering effect of the aldose reductase inhibitor cemtirestat-another factor that may contribute to attenuation of symptoms of peripheral neuropathy in STZ-diabetic rats.
Marta Soltesova Prnova,Lucia Kovacikova,Karol Svik,Štefan Bezek,Zubeyir Elmazoglu,Çimen Karasu,Milan Stefek +6 more
TL;DR: Taking into account the lipid metabolism as an interesting molecular target for prevention or treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy, the triglyceride-lowering effect of cemtirestat should be considered in future studies.
