Pull-on garments provided with a continuous belt (38) in the front region (26) and the back region (28) to distribute the forces generated during use in order to better fit the pull-on garment on the wearer. In a preferred embodiment, the pull-on garment comprises a chassis layer (40) comprising a continuous sheet that defines a front region, a back region, and a crotch region (30), first belt layer (42) joined to the chassis layer in the front region; a second belt layer (44) joined to the chassis layer in the back region; elastic laminate panel members (46, 48, 50, a.o) positioned between the belt layers and the chassis layers which laminate is mechanically stretched to form elastically extensible stretch laminates in both the front region and the back region in the side panels (64), and seams (32) joining the front region to the back region so as to form the leg openings (34) and waist openings (36). The continuous chassis layer and belt layers thus form the continuous belt of the pull-on garment. Because the belt layers extend continuously laterally across the waist region and do not cover the entire crotch region, and because the chassis layer is thus exposed in the crotch region, the pull-on garment has a unique aesthetic feature which consumers perceive as providing a cloth-like feel in the waist but containment characteristics in the crotch.

Absorbent articles such as disposable diapers, incontinent briefs, diaper holders, training pants, feminine hygiene garments and the like, that have a unique waist feature that improves the dynamic fit as well as the containment characteristics of the absorbent article. Such absorbent articles comprise a chassis assembly preferably comprising a liquid pervious topsheet, a liquid impervious backsheet, and an absorbent core positioned between the topsheet and the backsheet; an extensible back waist feature; and a closure system for maintaining the absorbent article on the wearer. The extensible back waist feature provides an extensible feature that provides a more comfortable and contouring fit by initially conformably fitting the diaper to the wearer and by sustaining this fit. The extensible back waist feature has a hip panel, a central waistband panel, and a pair of side panels. The force/extension characteristics of each panel is designed to provide such improved fit and containment. While each panel of the extensible waist feature may be constructed from a number of extensible materials, the panels preferably comprise a structural elastic-like film web. The structural elastic-like film (SELF) web exhibits an elastic-like behavior in the direction of elongation without the use of added elastic materials. The configuration of the SELF web in each panel has specific characteristics to provide the desired force/extension characteristics of each panel.

Macroscopically expanded three-dimensional plastic webs of the present invention may be effectively employed as alternatives for cloth and fibrous structures which contact the wearer's skin, as well as for new and existing product applications where a non-plastic visual and tactile impression are desired.

The web material includes a strainable network having at least two visually distinct regions of the same material composition. The first region undergoes a molecular-level deformation and the second region initially undergoes a substantially geometric deformation when the web material is subjected to an applied elongation in a direction substantially parallel to the axis of elongation.

The topsheet is manufactured from a thermoplastic sheet surface of which is imparted with a multiplicity of nubbles. A machine for packaging flexible articles, e.g. disposable diapers, which includes mechanism for forming a stack containing a predetermined number of articles including devices for moving the stack and pushing it into a suitable container. The machine includes an infeed conveyor section used to convey and compress the articles whereupon they are ultimately delivered into successive slots of a pad wheel. The articles are stripped from the slots and simultaneously formed into stacks containing a predetermined number of articles. A pusher element and a stack controller arm are provided to convey each stack into the pocket of an intermittently rotating stack wheel. The stack wheel moves successive stacks into alignment with a support plate whereupon a transfer pusher moves each successive stack fully onto the support plate. A tamper plate is provided to exert a small amount of compressive force on the stack prior to lateral movement of the stack between the support plate and a ceiling plate which is adjacent the tamper plate. A reciprocating side pusher is used to move the stack laterally into position for ultimate movement into a container. A container wheel is intermittently rotated alongside the support plate. Container supporting nozzles project from one side of the container wheel, there being a container telescoped over each of the nozzles. When a nozzle containing an empty container is moved into contiguous relationship with the article stacks, a container load pusher is actuated to move the stacks into the container whereupon on further indexing of the container wheel, the filled container is removed by a full container pusher.

The apparatus causes a ribbon of such film to be forwarded from a supply such as a roll of thermoplastic material, then about a circumferentially extending portion of a rotating texturing cylinder, and then downstream where the textured film may be further processed or where it may be wound on a spool to form a roll thereof. The texturing cylinder comprises a tubular member having a coating of spheroidal particles adhered to the surface thereof. While the film is in contact with the texturing cylinder, it is both heated and urged against the texturing cylinder, causing the film to assume the textured image of the texturing cylinder. The apparatus may further control tension in the film both upstream and downstream of the texturing cylinder at predetermined constant levels. A method of making the texturing cylinder is also disclosed in which an epoxy film having spheroidal particles dispersed therein is electrostatically coated onto the radially outwardly facing surface of the texturing cylinder.
