Electrical analysis of triboelectric nanogenerator for high voltage applications exampled by DBD microplasma

A dynamic electrical model for a plane-parallel configuration homogeneous dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) is investigated using the MATLAB Simulink. The electrical model is based on an equivalent electric circuit, in which the DBD is represented by a voltage-controlled current source associated to a resistance and a capacitance value. In addition, a plane-parallel DBD cell filled with He gas is used for the experiments, and a sinusoidal voltage of up to 5-kV peak value at frequencies of 10 kHz is applied to the discharge electrodes for the generation of homogeneous discharges. The electrical characteristics of homogeneous DBD under different operating conditions are studied using the electrical model simulations and experiments, and a comparison between them is conducted. It is shown that the simulated voltage and current waveforms and Lissajous figures are consistent with the experimental ones, which validates the functionality of the model. The dynamic behavior of the discharge parameters (such as gas gap voltage, discharge current, discharge consumed power, and transported charges), which are not measurable in the real process, is studied with the electrical simulation model, and the voltage-current curves are also obtained from simulation and used to analyze the evolution trajectory of the homogeneous DBD.

Electrical Model and Experimental Analysis of the Atmospheric-Pressure Homogeneous Dielectric Barrier Discharge in He

In this work, a one-dimensional numerical uid model is developed for co-axial dielec- tric barrier discharge (DBD) in pure helium and a parametric study is performed to systematically study the in uence of relative permittivity of the dielectric barrier and the applied voltage amplitude and frequency on the discharge performance. Discharge current, gap voltage and spatially averaged electron density pro les are presented as a function of relative permittivity and voltage parameters. For the geometry un- der consideration, both the applied voltage parameters are shown to increase the maximum amplitude of the discharge current peak up to a certain threshold value, above which it stabilized or decreased slowly. The spatially averaged electron density pro les follow a similar trend as the discharge current. Relative permittivity of the dielectric barrier is predicted to have a positive in uence on the discharge current. At lower frequency it is also shown to lead a transition from Townsend to glow dis- charge mode. Spatially and time averaged power density is also calculated and is shown to increase with increasing relative permittivity, applied voltage amplitude and frequency.

Numerical investigation of co-axial DBD: Influence of relative permittivity of the dielectric barrier, applied voltage amplitude, and frequency

A numerical parameter study has been performed for a cylindrical atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) in helium with nitrogen impurities using a two-dimensional time-dependent fluid model. The calculated electric currents and gap voltages as a function of time for a given applied potential are presented, as well as the number densities of the various plasma species. This study shows that for the geometry under consideration the applied voltage parameters have a large impact on the electric current profiles and that the discharge current is always determined by the electron and ion conduction currents while the displacement current is nearly negligible. A relative broadening of the current profiles (compared with the duration of the half cycle of the applied voltage) with an increase in the applied frequency is obtained. Nearly sinusoidal current wave forms, usually typical for radio frequency DBDs, are observed while still operating at the frequencies of tens of kilohertz. For the setup under investigation, the Townsend mode of the DBD is observed in the entire range of applied voltage amplitudes and frequencies. It is shown that the average power density dissipated in the discharge increases with rising applied voltage and frequency. An increase in applied voltage frequency leads to an increase in the electron density and a decrease in electron energy, while increasing the voltage amplitude has the opposite effect.

Fluid modelling of an atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge in cylindrical geometry

Dielectric barrier discharges (DBDs) occur in the presence of at least one insulating layer in contact with the discharge between two planar or cylindrical electrodes connected to a high voltage supply. A quartz coaxial DBD tube, filled with argon, has been studied and an electrical model characterizing the discharges has been proposed. The proposed model considers the geometry of the DBD tube, gas gap spacing and the properties of the dielectric barrier material. A sinusoidal voltage up to 2.4?kV peak with frequencies from 20 to 100?kHz has been applied to the discharge electrodes for the generation of microdischarges. By comparisons of visual images and electrical waveforms, the filamentary discharges have been confirmed. The simulated discharge characteristics have been validated by the experimental results. A good correlation between the experimental and simulated results was found, which is used to deduce the circuit impedance and other electrical parameters, in particular, the conduction current, charge accumulation, energy deposited and consumed power during discharges.
