TL;DR: Exogenous oxytocin exerts an analgesic action in newborn pups that involves a reduction of the depolarizing action of GABA on nociceptive neurons, revealing a novel facet of the protective actions of oxytocIn in the fetus at birth.

Emergence of Coordinated Activity in the Developing Entorhinal–Hippocampal Network
Guzel Valeeva,Sona Janackova,Azat Nasretdinov,Veronika Rychkova,Roman Makarov,Gregory L. Holmes,Roustem Khazipov,Roustem Khazipov,Pierre-Pascal Lenck-Santini,Pierre-Pascal Lenck-Santini +9 more
TL;DR: During the neonatal period, activity in the entorhinal cortex (EC) and hippocampus is highly synchronous, with the EC leading hippocampal activation, and it is proposed that such correlated activity is embedded into a large-scale bottom-up circuit that processes somatosensory feedback resulting from neonatal movements.
