What's in this Drink? Classification and Adulterant Detection in Irish Whiskey Samples Using Near Infrared Spectroscopy Combined with Chemometrics
Aoife Power,John Jones,Caoimhe NiNeil,Sive Geoghegan,Susan Warren,Sinead Currivan,Daniel Cozzolino +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used NIR spectroscopy coupled with PCA and partial least squares regression to analyze a series of different Irish Whiskey samples in order to define their spectral profile and assess the capability of the NIR method to identify samples based on their origin and storage (e.g. distiller, method of maturation).

A Brief History of Whiskey Adulteration and the Role of Spectroscopy Combined with Chemometrics in the Detection of Modern Whiskey Fraud
Aoife Power,Caoimhe Ní Néill,Sive Geoghegan,Sinead Currivan,Mary Deasy,Daniel Cozzolino +5 more
- 03 Aug 2020
TL;DR: This review describes and discusses different aspects of whisky production, and recent developments of laboratory, in field and high throughput analysis, detailing the use of vibrational spectroscopy techniques combined with data analytical methods used to not only distinguish between brand and origin of whisky but to also detect adulteration.
