Witnesses in the special court for Sierra Leone: The importance of the witness–lawyer relationship
TL;DR: In this article, a structured interview was conducted with 171 witnesses who had testified in the Special Court for Sierra Leone and their legal teams, finding that emotional support and good preparation for testifying seem to be particularly important predictors of witnesses' relationship with their lawyers.

Why Testify? Witnesses’ Motivations for Giving Evidence in a War Crimes Tribunal in Sierra Leone
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used content analysis to examine the variety and frequency of responses from 200 witnesses who gave evidence in the Special Court for Sierra Leone, finding that the most frequently cited motivation was "to denounce wrongs committed against me during the war," followed by "to contribute to public knowledge about the war."
