In this paper we look at the usability of personal learning environments from a software development perspective, especially how internal quality affects software usability We propose improvements that enable developers to reduce development time, achieve good usability from the start, and, most importantly, to sustain lasting fitness of software through continuous improvement and its evolution Our support comes from two different directions: Interaction patterns capture design wisdom, and thereby save design time and reduce documentation necessities Appropriate processes and tool support lay out development tracks leading to better documentation that reduces costs for changing and evolving the software

A Software Process Framework for PLE Development to Reduce Time and Costs of Widget Creation and Evolution

This paper attempts to explain intuitiveness of software engineering techniques with user experience (UX) concepts. It describes a model of relationships between intuitiveness of software techniques and refined understanding of UX for software technology. It covers both intuitiveness at the starting point and the dynamics of transforming episodic UX to cumulative UX and perception of intuitiveness. Then, it discusses potential application of this model. Finally, it presents examples of explanations resulting from the model.

On explaining intuitiveness of software engineering techniques with user experience concepts

Two approaches to research on UX models and measures are discussed on basis of experiences from the field of usability research and an ongoing case of user involvement in software development (SD) by way of social media. It is suggested that simple measures and ad-hoc models, rather than complex models and measures, may be beneficial to the relevance of UX research for SD practice.
