Electro-Fenton degradation of ciprofloxacin with highly ordered mesoporous MnCo2O4-CF cathode: Enhanced redox capacity and accelerated electron transfer

An electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor provides a sensitive and convenient method for early diagnosis of diseases; however, it is still a challenge to develop simple and sensitive sensing platforms based on efficient ECL signals and luminophore groups. Porphyrin-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) show great potential in ECL sensing; however, the mechanism and structure-activity relationship, as well as application, are rarely reported. Herein, hydrothermal reactions obtained porphyrin Zr-MOFs (PCN-222) with different specific surface areas, pore sizes, structures, and surface charge states by tuning the reaction time were developed, which served both as the ECL luminophore, coreaction promoter for S2O82-, and a connection in the ECL immunoassay. By progressively controlling the condition of the hydrothermal reaction, PCN-222 with large surface area-abundant micropores can be obtained, which has good conductivity and positively charged surfaces, obtaining excellent ECL performance. The ECL performance and the enhancement mechanism were investigated in detail. Using PCN-222-6h with the best ECL intensity as the immobilization matrix for the aptamer, a highly sensitive and selective assay for thrombin was developed. The decrease of the ECL signal was logarithmically linear with the concentration of thrombin in the range from 50 fg mL-1 to 100 pg mL-1 with a low detection limit of 2.48 fg/mL. This proposed strategy provides a brand new approach for tuning of the structures of MOFs as effective ECL signal probes, thus providing wider possibilities for effective ECL immunoassays in the detection of other biomarkers in diagnosis of diseases.

Regulation of the Structure of Zirconium-Based Porphyrinic Metal-Organic Framework as Highly Electrochemiluminescence Sensing Platform for Thrombin.

The sensitive detection of coronavirus is of vital importance for the prevention of its rapid spread. Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is a highly contagious coronavirus that causes severe diarrhea and death in neonatal piglets. In this work, a novel PCN-224-based electrochemiluminescence (ECL) system was constructed for PEDV detection with high sensitivity. We found that PCN-224 can be employed as an ECL reporter with a strong signal because of its zirconium-based organic porous frame nanomaterial with a large specific surface area and stable structure. TiO2 nanoparticles were used as an accelerator for the first time to promote the reduction of coreactant potassium peroxydisulfate on the cathode; thus, the initial ECL signal of PCN-224 was significantly amplified. In the presence of PEDV, the ECL signal decreased due to the block effect to electron transfer. As a result, the novel "signal off" biosensor achieved a sensitive detection of PEDV ranging from 1 pg/mL to 10 ng/mL, with a detection limit of 0.4 pg/mL (S/N = 3). Importantly, the PCN-224 nanomaterial enriched the ECL system in biological analysis, and the proposed strategy provided a new route for coronavirus detection.

Novel Porphyrin Zr Metal-Organic Framework (PCN-224)-Based Ultrastable Electrochemiluminescence System for PEDV Sensing

Most electrochemiluminescence (ECL) studies involve single luminophore with a unique emission process, which severely limits its applications. Recently, multicolor ECL has attracted considerable interests. Herein, we report a novel nanoluminophore prepared by coating 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)-porphyrin (TCPP) and N-(4-aminobutyl)-N-ethylisoluminol (ABEI) on the surface of TiO2 nanoparticles (TiO2-TCPP-ABEI), which exhibited unique potential-resolved multicolor ECL emissions using H2O2 and K2S2O8 as coreactants in an aqueous solution. Three ECL peaks, ECL-1 at 458 nm, ECL-2 at 686 nm, and ECL-3 at 529 nm, were obtained with peak potentials of 1.05, −1.65, and −1.85 V, which were attributed to the ECL emission of ABEI, TCPP, and TiO2 moiety of the nanoluminophores, respectively. Investigation of Interfacial Consecutive Electron Transfer and Redox Behaviors of Zinc-tetraarylporphyrins

In the present study, vertically aligned single-crystalline TiO2 nanowire arrays with various lengths grown on transparent substrate have been successfully prepared using a facile hydrothermal method. They were then sensitized with a photoactive compound, 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-carboxylphenyl)porphyrin. The material was fully characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy (UV-vis). A UV-vis/scanning electrochemical microscope (SECM) platform was developed by utilizing TiO2 nanowire arrays, and the influence of wire length as well as wavelength and intensity of light on the electron transfer rate was discussed in detail through the generated probe approach curves. The results showed that the electron transfer rate at the surface of the TiO2/porphyrin composite was accelerated by increasing the length of the nanowire, probably due to more porphyrin loading and the match of the conduction band edge of TiO2 with the LUMO energy level of the porphyrin molecules, as evidenced by the DFT theoretical calculations. The maximum rate of electron transfer was reached at a wavelength of 546 nm and an illumination intensity of 90%. The efficient PET system constructed in this study will, we believe, provide useful information to help people investigate the mechanism of the charge transfer process of artificial photosynthesis.
