Superlubricity has been developing very rapidly in recent years as a new and important area in tribology. Many new phenomena and materials, as well as some new mechanisms in both liquid and solid superlubricity have been obtained. In liquid superlubricity, tens of new kinds of liquids with superlubricity have been found (e.g., water-based liquids, oil-based lubricants, and liquids combined with additives of two-dimensional (2D) materials that exhibit very good superlubricity properties under high pressure). In the field of solid superlubricity, more materials with superlubricity have been observed, including graphene-to-graphene surfaces, highly oriented pyrolytic graphite to graphene surfaces, and heterostructure surfaces where a friction coefficient as low as 0.00004 has been obtained. However, superlubricity is still under laboratory research. What is the future of superlubricity? What is the barrier restricting superlubricity from industrial applications? How do we transfer superlubricity from scientific research to industrial application? These questions and application fields of superlubricity in near future have been analyzed, and the concept of “superlubricitive engineering” has been proposed in the present work.

Superlubricitive engineering—Future industry nearly getting rid of wear and frictional energy consumption

The exfoliation of graphene has opened a new frontier in material science with a focus on 2D materials. The unique thermal, physical and chemical properties of these materials have made them one of the choicest candidates in novel mechanical and nano-electronic devices. Notably, 2D materials such as graphene, MoS2, WS2, h-BN and black phosphorus have shown outstanding lowest frictional coefficients and wear rates, making them attractive materials for high-performance nano-lubricants and lubricating applications. The objective of this work is to provide a comprehensive overview of the most recent developments in the tribological potentials of 2D materials. At first, the essential physical, wear and frictional characteristics of the 2D materials including their production techniques are discussed. Subsequently, the experimental explorations and theoretical simulations of the most common 2D materials are reviewed in regards to their tribological applications such as their use as solid lubricants and surface lubricant nano-additives. The effects of micro/nano textures on friction behavior are also reviewed. Finally, the current challenges in tribological applications of 2D materials and their prospects are discussed.

As an important instrument for air-to-ground communication, the large space deployable antenna plays an important role in driving technological innovation and has become a topic of interest for research scholars worldwide. A large-scale deployable ring truss is introduced in this paper, which is equipped with a complete rope-driven driving method and supplements a cable net system in forming a complete space antenna. The antenna supporting arm is a slender structure that exhibits a certain flexible deformation during the deployment process of the antenna. A dynamic deployment model of supporting arms based on the absolute node coordinate formulation is established. In addition, based on the Lagrange equation, dynamic equations of multibody systems, including equations describing friction and flexible cable nets, are built. Furthermore, the optimal deployment process law of the antenna is developed. Finally, the performance of the deployment process of the antenna supporting arms and space deployable antenna is analyzed by the numerical simulation, which lays a solid foundation for subsequent prototype development and control theory research.

Deployment Dynamics of Large Space Antenna and Supporting Arms

With the development of the aerospace industry, the demand for spaceborne antennas is increasing, and the surface shape accuracy of the cable network system directly determines the performance of the antenna. This paper proposes an accuracy adjustment method of the antenna network surface by adjusting the vertical tensioning cables. The method takes a three-dimensional grid cable network antenna as the research object and takes the dodecagonal ring truss-type deployable antenna as a case for analysis. In the case of known geometric parameters of the cable network, it can improve the accuracy of cable net reflective surface only by adjusting the length of the vertical cable and tension. The article briefly introduced the basic principles of cable network accuracy adjustment and established an optimized mathematical model for precision adjustment. At the same time, two algorithms based on node displacement adjustment are proposed for the model. Through these two algorithms, the optimal adjustment value of vertical cable length can be obtained. Finally, a numerical simulation of the model and algorithm is performed to verify the feasibility of the adjustment method and the algorithm, and the two algorithms are compared.

The single-degree-of-freedom annular truss-type expandable mechanism formed by connection with the expandable unit based on the space 5R mechanism is simple in structure, low in degree of freedom and high in rigidity.

Large deployable reflectors are the key technical equipment to meet the needs of geostationary mobile communication in high rail and earth observation. After being sent to the working track by the spacecraft, the space antenna is driven by a reliable and stable controller to provide a frame for forming a high-precision metal reflecting surface. This paper aims to study the optimal deployment process control strategy and method based on the deployable trajectory for a large deployable antenna. In this paper, the Backstepping controller and fuzzy PID controller are designed respectively based on the model and non-model perspectives. The feasibility of the controller is verified by simulation, and the advantages and applications of the controller are illustrated by comparison. The article lays a good foundation for the technical improvement of the antenna system.
