Comparison of the microbial population dynamics and phylogenetic characterization of a CANOXIS reactor and a UASB reactor degrading trichloroethene.
TL;DR: In this article, the microbial ecology underlying trichloethene (TCE) degradation in a coupled anaerobic/aerobic single stage (CANOXIS) reactor oxygenated with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and in an up-flow upflow sludge bed (UASB) was investigated.

Electron microscopic examination of the extracellular polymeric substances in anaerobic granular biofilms.
TL;DR: Scanning electron microscopy revealed that collapsed extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) surrounded bacteria present in granular sludge and was seen to completely fill the intercellular spaces in the microcolonies.

Ethanol-to-methane activity of Geobacter-deprived anaerobic granules enhanced by conductive microparticles
TL;DR: Results indicate that syntrophic bacteria from anaerobic sludge excluding Geobacter species can also carry out conductive mineral mediated DIET, and that biological DIET occurs and competes with hydrogen and formate during methanogenesis.

Population Analysis of Mesophilic Microbial Fuel Cells Fed with Carbon Monoxide
Abid Hussain,Abid Hussain,Guillaume Bruant,P. Mehta,Vijaya Raghavan,Boris Tartakovsky,Serge R. Guiot +6 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis of the two-step process in which CO is converted to acetate by the carboxidotrophic Bacteria and acetate is then oxidized by CO-tolerant electricigenic Bacteria to produce electricity is supported.

Mixing characteristics and performance of the anaerobic upflow blanket filter (UBF) reactor
Réjean Samson,Serge R. Guiot +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the upflow blanket filter (UBF) was used for the treatment of soluble wastes in the UBF Reactor and the results indicated that mixing profiles of the reactor operated with effluent recirculation and without biomass were of the perfectly mixed type.
