Relationship between circadian-dependent toxicity of 5-fluorodeoxyuridine and circadian rhythms of pyrimidine enzymes: possible relevance to fluoropyrimidine chemotherapy.
TL;DR: It is concluded that the circadian pattern of TK and DPD activity may explain the observed circadian variation in toxicity as the time of FdUrd administration is varied and may be useful in the design of improved chemotherapeutic regimens using time-modified administration of F dUrd.
A Population-Based Validation of the American Joint Committee on Cancer Melanoma Staging System
TL;DR: Although this national population-based study validates the most recent revision of AJCC stages for melanoma, it emphasizes that survival rates are population specific and found them to be generally higher for SEER compared with AJCC patients.

Improved staging of node-negative patients with intermediate to thick melanomas (>1 mm) with the use of lymphatic mapping and sentinel lymph node biopsy
Sophie Dessureault,Sophie Dessureault,Seng-Jaw Soong,Seng-Jaw Soong,Merrick I. Ross,John F. Thompson,John F. Thompson,John M. Kirkwood,John M. Kirkwood,Daniel G. Coit,Daniel G. Coit,Kelly M. McMasters,Kelly M. McMasters,Charles M. Balch,Douglas S. Reintgen,Douglas S. Reintgen +15 more
TL;DR: SLN biopsy provides more accurate staging and may contribute to a survival benefit in populations of patients with melanoma.

Phase specific analysis of herpes zoster associated pain data: a new statistical approach
Ramin B. Arani,Seng-Jaw Soong,Heidi L. Weiss,Martin J. Wood,Paul A. Fiddian,John W. Gnann,Richard J. Whitley +6 more
TL;DR: A heuristic examination of ZAP historical data suggests the existence of three phases of pain resolution: the acute, subacute and chronic phases, and the covariates effect can be examined across phases and populations, thereby allowing to translate potential efficacy of a standard therapy to different populations.

Disseminated Herpes Zoster in the Immunocompromised Host: A Comparative Trial of Acyclovir and Vidarabine
Richard J. Whitley,John W. Gnann,Daniel R. Hinthorn,Chein Liu,Richard B. Pollard,Frederick G. Hayden,Gregory J. Mertz,Michael N. Oxman,Seng-Jaw Soong +8 more
TL;DR: The data indicate that disseminated herpes zoster is amenable to therapy with either acyclovir or vidarabine; resultant mortality is low.
