The effects of plant-based diets on the body and the brain: a systematic review
Evelyn Medawar,Evelyn Medawar,Sebastian Huhn,Arno Villringer,Arno Villringer,A. Veronica Witte +5 more
TL;DR: Robust evidence for short- to moderate-term beneficial effects of plant-based diets versus conventional diets on weight status, energy metabolism and systemic inflammation in healthy participants, obese and type-2 diabetes patients is found.
Visceral obesity relates to deep white matter hyperintensities via inflammation.
Leonie Lampe,Rui Zhang,Frauke Beyer,Sebastian Huhn,Shahrzad Kharabian Masouleh,Shahrzad Kharabian Masouleh,Sven Preusser,Pierre-Louis Bazin,Pierre-Louis Bazin,Matthias L. Schroeter,Arno Villringer,A. Veronica Witte +11 more
TL;DR: This work aimed to determine whether obesity contributes to regional WMHs using a whole‐brain approach in a well‐characterized population‐based cohort.

Components of a Mediterranean diet and their impact on cognitive functions in aging.
Sebastian Huhn,Shahrzad Kharabian Masouleh,Michael Stumvoll,Arno Villringer,Arno Villringer,A. Veronica Witte,A. Veronica Witte +6 more
TL;DR: A majority of available studies suggest that consumption of LC-n3-FA with fish or fishoil-supplements exerts positive effects on brain health and cognition in older humans, but more large-scale randomized controlled trials are needed to draw definite recommendations.
Effects of resveratrol on memory performance, hippocampus connectivity and microstructure in older adults - A randomized controlled trial.
Sebastian Huhn,Sebastian Huhn,Frauke Beyer,Frauke Beyer,Rui Zhang,Rui Zhang,Leonie Lampe,Jana Grothe,Jürgen Kratzsch,Anja Willenberg,Jana Breitfeld,Peter Kovacs,Michael Stumvoll,Robert Trampel,Pierre-Louis Bazin,Pierre-Louis Bazin,Pierre-Louis Bazin,Arno Villringer,Arno Villringer,A. Veronica Witte,A. Veronica Witte +20 more
TL;DR: 6 months resveratrol supplementation showed no significant effects on verbal memory compared to placebo, and the findings indicate the feasibility to detect (un)healthy aging‐related changes in measures of hippocampus microstructure after 6 months using 7T diffusion MRI.

Do High Mental Demands at Work Protect Cognitive Health in Old Age via Hippocampal Volume? Results From a Community Sample.
Francisca S. Rodriguez,Sebastian Huhn,Sebastian Huhn,William A. Vega,María P. Aranda,Matthias L. Schroeter,Matthias L. Schroeter,Christoph Engel,Ronny Baber,Ralph Burkhardt,Markus Löffler,Joachim Thiery,Arno Villringer,Arno Villringer,Tobias Luck,Steffi G. Riedel-Heller,A. Veronica Witte,A. Veronica Witte +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the association between mental demands at work and hippocampal volume and found that higher demands in "language and knowledge", "information processing", and creativity at work were associated with larger white and gray matter volume and better cognitive functioning with creativity having stronger effects for people not yet retired.
