Uncertainty Quantification in Prognostic Health Management Systems
H. Heath Dewey,Derek R. DeVries,Scott Hyde +2 more
- 01 Mar 2019
TL;DR: Methods for measuring and tracking uncertainty through the PHM predictive train are presented, as is a Monte-Carlo-based method for performing prognostic numerical calculations, which accounts for and quantifies epistemic, ontological, and aleatory uncertainty.

Model-based diagnostics and prognostics for solid rocket motors
Dmitry G. Luchinsky,V. V. Osipov,Vadim Smelyanskiy,Anna Patterson-Hine,Ben Hayashida,Michael Watson,Joshua McMillin,David Shook,Mont Johnson,Scott Hyde +9 more
- 01 Jan 2009
TL;DR: In this paper, a performance model of the internal ballistics of large segmented solid rocket motors in the regime of steady burning in the presence of the case breach fault is presented, which takes into account the effect of mass addition along the rocket axis, erosive burning, and surface friction.
Fault diagnostics and prognostics for large segmented SRMs
Dmitry G. Luchinsky,V. V. Osipov,Vadim Smelyanskiy,Dogan A. Timucin,Serdar Uckun,Ben Hayashida,Michael Watson,Joshua McMillin,David Shook,Mont Johnson,Scott Hyde +10 more
- 07 Mar 2009
TL;DR: In this paper, a fault diagnostic and prognostic (FDP) surface regression model for the propellant taking into account erosive burning, model of the propulsion geometry, and model of a hole burning through in the SRM steel case is presented.

IVHM System for a case breach fault in Large Segmented SRMs
V. V. Osipov,Dmitry G. Luchinsky,Vadim Smelyanskiy,Dogan A. Timucin,Serdar Uckun,Ben Hayashida,Michael Watson,Joshua McMillin,David Shook,Mont Johnson,Scott Hyde +10 more
- 01 Dec 2009
TL;DR: In this article, an analysis of the case breach fault in a large segmented SRM is presented in the context of development of the IVHM system, which is integrated in quasisteady approximation by solving a boundary value problem for the spatial distribution of the flow variables in the combustion chamber at each time step of steady burning.
Solid Rocket Motor Reliability and Historical Failure Modes Review
Timothy Sojourner,David E. Richardson,Brian D. Allen,Scott Hyde,Scott McHenry,Ben Goldberg,Derek R. DeVries,Mark E. Ewing +7 more
- 27 Jul 2015
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a review of trends in historical reliability of solid rocket motors, identification of historical failures modes and their implications to modern systems, and a brief summary review of approaches that have been developed to improve reliability.
