A Survey on Industrial Information Integration 2016–2019

The wider use of Internet of Things (IoT) makes it possible to create smart cities. The purpose of this paper is to identify key IoT challenges and understand the relationship between these challenges to support the development of smart cities.,Challenges were identified using literature review, and prioritised and elaborated by experts. The contextual interactions between the identified challenges and their importance were determined using Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM). To interrelate the identified challenges and promote IoT in the context of smart cities, the dynamics of interactions of these challenges were analysed using an integrated Matrice d’Impacts Croises Multiplication Appliques a un Classement (MICMAC)-ISM approach. MICMAC is a structured approach to categorise variables according to their driving power and dependence.,Security and privacy, business models, data quality, scalability, complexity and governance were found to have strong driving power and so are key challenges to be addressed in sustainable cities projects. The main driving challenges are complexity and lack of IoT governance. IoT adoption and implementation should therefore focus on breaking down complexity in manageable parts, supported by a governance structure.,This research can help smart city developers in addressing challenges in a phase-wise approach by first ensuring solid foundations and thereafter developing other aspects.,A contribution originates from the integrated MICMAC-ISM approach. ISM is a technique used to identify contextual relationships among definite elements, whereas MICMAC facilitates the classification of challenges based on their driving and dependence power. The other contribution originates from creating an overview of challenges and theorising the contextual relationships and dependencies among the challenges.

Leadership style and innovation atmosphere in enterprises: An empirical study

Although research regarding supply chain collaboration has been increasing, studies reviewing supply chain collaboration remains limited. This review paper categorises supply chain collaboration and identifies different themes in this research field. Articles were collected based on a designed keywords list and specific subject restrictions in citation databases. Text-mining technology and conceptual criteria were used to categorise and screen articles into different categories. Finally, cluster analysis was used to group articles and identify emerging themes. From the year 1999 to 2017, a total of 678 articles regarding supply chain collaboration were found. What modelling research on supply chain collaboration informs us? Identifying key themes and future directions through a literature review

Today’s global enterprises have faced with a growing increase in the competitiveness that forces them to adopt and develop new strategies and methods. Recent researches have proposed the Cloud manufacturing as the new paradigm for global manufacturing enterprises. The first challenge in cloud manufacturing paradigm is the manufacturing data integration concept. The integration of enterprise-level business systems with manufacturing systems is found to be one of the inevitable drivers for productivity. However, integrating heterogeneous and autonomous data sources through enterprises which are numerous in number and also in approaches is a significant challenge. Moreover, the data integration should involve the integration of autonomous, distributed, and heterogeneous database sources into a single data source associated with a global schema in Cloud manufacturing paradigm. In this chapter, the concepts of Cloud manufacturing data integration have been discussed comprehensively. Discussing the dominant researches for both manufacturing ontology models and solutions proposed as enabler approaches in global manufacturing data integration, the chapter illustrates two main characteristics of an efficient global Cloud manufacturing ontology model. The first characteristic emphasizes on a consistent manufacturing data model, while the second one looks for an efficient management structure to fulfill the improvements and developments in manufacturing discourses. The chapter uses the axiomatic design theory to propose an efficient idea for a global Cloud manufacturing ontology model. The proposed idea fulfills the first axiom of the axiomatic design theory which insures the capabilities of the proposed ontology model to fulfill the characteristics of an efficient global manufacturing ontology model. The capability of the proposed approach is discussed by proposing implementation structures for a manufacturing ontology model based on the international standard organization standards related to ISO 10303, ISO 15531, and ISO 18629. The proposed Cloud manufacturing ontology model can be considered as the basic step toward achieving the global Cloud manufacturing.

A Manufacturing Ontology Model to Enable Data Integration Services in Cloud Manufacturing using Axiomatic Design Theory

Improving the creation and management of collaborative networks within the European maritime sector

A Virtual Integration Platform (VIP) is described which provides support for the integration of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis tools into an environment that supports the use of these tools in a distributed collaborative manner. The VIP has evolved through previous EU research conducted within the VRShips-ROPAX 2000 (VRShips) project and the current version discussed here was developed predominantly within the VIRTUE project but also within the SAFEDOR project. The VIP is described with respect to the support it provides to designers and analysts in co-ordinating and optimising CFD analysis requests. Two case studies are provided that illustrate the application of the VIP within HSVA: the use of a panel code for the evaluation of geometry variations in order to improve propeller efficiency, and the use of a dedicated maritime RANS code (FreSCo) to improve the wake distribution for the VIRTUE tanker. A discussion is included detailing the background, application and results from the use of the VIP within these two case studies as well as how the platform was of benefit during the development and a consideration of how it can benefit HSVA in the future.

A collaborative platform for integrating and optimising Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis requests

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools used in shipbuilding industry involve multiple disciplines, such as resistance, manoeuvring, and cavitation. Traditionally, the analysis was performed separately and sequentially in each discipline, which often resulted in conflict and inconsistency of hydrodynamic prediction. In an effort to solve such problems for future CFD computations, a Virtual Integration Platform (VIP) has been developed in the University of Strathclyde within two EU FP6 projects - VIRTUE and SAFEDOR1. The VIP provides a holistic collaborative environment for designers with features such as Project/Process Management, Distributed Tools Integration, Global Optimisation, Version Management, and Knowledge Management. These features enhance collaboration among customers, ship design companies, shipyards, and consultancies not least because they bring together the best expertise and resources around the world. The platform has been tested in seven European ship design companies including consultancies. Its main functionalities along with advances are presented in this paper with two industrial applications.
