This paper attempts at investigating the impact of information security on the performance of Egyptian banks. This has been conducted using a sample of 13 banks (out of 32 banks), during 2013. Information security is measured by the degree of the application of ISO 27001 and PCI-DSS standards on Egyptian Banks, while banks' performance is measured by indicators of profitability and asset quality. ISO 27001 specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and improving a documented Information Security Management System (ISMS). Besides Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS) is a comprehensive standard is intended to help organizations protectively protect customer account data. Results indicate that implementation of ISO 27001 standards may affect profitability indicators as measured by “Return on Capital”, while implementation of PCI-DSS standard may affect asset quality as measured by “Non-Performing Loan Ratio”.

Information technology plays an important role in everyday lives and it affects the status of information security. Commonly used meaning for information security in literature is the preservation of confidentiality, integrity and availability. The main aim of the research is to examine the information security awareness and influence information security culture through awareness before applying to any organization. Information security awareness provides some kind of safeguard for our information from outside attack. Most of the security incidents are occurred due to the negligence and unawareness of the users. It is important for all employees in society to keep the awareness of information security at higher level. Generally few users with poor awareness and many users with rich awareness of information security in society exist. End-users attitude and the evaluation of information security policy are the two important factors in raising information security awareness. The success of project management within organization requires security awareness. This paper proposes an information security awareness model (ISAM) which analyzes and identifies the most common events related to information security awareness and categorizes these events as low-level, mid-level, and high-level. The importance of information security for every field is increasingly recognized, the size and shape of information security policies may vary widely from organization to organization. This may depend on many factors, including the size of the organization, the sensitivity of the information they own, and the numbers and types of information and computing systems they use. A more effective concept is to develop a suite of policy documents to cover all information security bases; making a more efficient process for everyone. This paper examines the elements that need to be considered when developing and maintaining information security policy and goes on to present a design for a suite of information security policy. Many factors must be taken into accounts, which are discussed in this paper. The primary goal of this paper is to propose a new framework for information security that can provide better security over data and system. In this paper basics of information security is discussed which includes components of information security along with core principles of information security. This paper also explains various threats to the information and strategies that can be used in order to deal with such threats along with risk management. After this problem definition is explained. Then methodology used for designing the new framework for information security policy clarifies the approach. Analysis has done on information security policies of various universities and this analysis helps to design a new framework for information security. The proposed information security framework is simulated with the help of software.
