Succinate induces skeletal muscle fiber remodeling via SUCNR1 signaling
Tao Wang,Yaqiong Xu,Yexian Yuan,Pingwen Xu,Cha Zhang,Fan Li,Lina Wang,Cong Yin,Lin Zhang,Xingcai Cai,Canjun Zhu,Jingren Xu,Bing-Qing Liang,Sarah Schaul,Peipei Xie,Dong Yue,Liao Zhengrui,Lulu Yu,Lv Luo,Gan Zhou,Jinping Yang,Zhihui He,Man Du,Yu-Ping Zhou,Bai-Chuan Deng,Songbo Wang,Ping Gao,Xiaotong Zhu,Qianyun Xi,Yongliang Zhang,Gang Shu,Qingyan Jiang +31 more
TL;DR: It is found that dietary succinate supplementation increased endurance exercise ability, myosin heavy chain I expression, aerobic enzyme activity, oxygen consumption, and mitochondrial biogenesis in mouse skeletal muscle, and the potential beneficial use of succinate‐based compounds in both athletic and sedentary populations is suggested.

Exercise-induced α-ketoglutaric acid stimulates muscle hypertrophy and fat loss through OXGR1-dependent adrenal activation.
Yexian Yuan,Pingwen Xu,Qing-Yan Jiang,Xingcai Cai,Tao Wang,Wentong Peng,Jiajie Sun,Canjun Zhu,Cha Zhang,Dong Yue,Zhihui He,Jinping Yang,Yuxian Zeng,Man Du,Fenglin Zhang,Lucas Ibrahimi,Sarah Schaul,Yuwei Jiang,Jiqiu Wang,Jia Sun,Qiao-Ping Wang,Liming Liu,Songbo Wang,Lina Wang,Xiaotong Zhu,Ping Gao,Qianyun Xi,Cong Yin,Fan Li,Guli Xu,Yongliang Zhang,Gang Shu +31 more
TL;DR: An unappreciated mechanism for the salutary effects of resistance exercise is revealed, using AKG as a systemically derived molecule for adrenal stimulation of muscle hypertrophy and fat loss.

Estrogen signaling in the dorsal raphe regulates binge-like drinking in mice
Valeria C. Torres Irizarry,Bing Feng,Xiaohua Yang,Patel Nirali,Sarah Schaul,Lucas Ibrahimi,Hui Ye,Pei Luo,Leslie Carrillo‐Saenz,Penghua Lai,Maya Kota,Devin Dixit,Chunmei Wang,Amy W. Lasek,Yanlin He,Pingwen Xu +15 more
TL;DR: A model in which estrogens act on ERα/β to prevent alcohol-induced activation of 5-HTDRN neurons, which in return leads to higher binge alcohol drinking in females is supported.
