Serial echocardiographic-Doppler assessment of left ventricular geometry and function in rats with pressure-overload hypertrophy. Chronic angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition attenuates the transition to heart failure.
Sheldon E. Litwin,Sarah E. Katz,Ellen O. Weinberg,Beverly H. Lorell,Gerard P. Aurigemma,Pamela S. Douglas +5 more
TL;DR: This model of pressure overload is characterized initially by concentric LV hypertrophy with compensated LV chamber performance; however, markedly abnormal diastolic filling is present.

Growth Hormone Attenuates Early Left Ventricular Remodeling and Improves Cardiac Function in Rats With Large Myocardial Infarction
Antonio Cittadini,Jessica D. Grossman,Raffaele Napoli,Sarah E. Katz,Hinrik Strömer,Robert J. Smith,Ross G. Clark,James P. Morgan,Pamela S. Douglas +8 more
TL;DR: Investigating the cardiac effects of growth hormone administration during the early phase of pathologic remodeling in a rat model of large myocardial infarction demonstrated that early treatment of large MI with GH attenuates the early pathologic LV remodeling and improves LV function.

Temporal dependence of the return of atrial mechanical function on the mode of cardioversion of atrial fibrillation to sinus rhythm.
Warren J. Manning,Warren J. Manning,Warren J. Manning,David I. Silverman,David I. Silverman,David I. Silverman,Sarah E. Katz,Sarah E. Katz,Sarah E. Katz,Marilyn F. Riley,Marilyn F. Riley,Marilyn F. Riley,Rosalie M. Doherty,Rosalie M. Doherty,Rosalie M. Doherty,Jiyl T. Munson,Jiyl T. Munson,Jiyl T. Munson,Pamela S. Douglas,Pamela S. Douglas,Pamela S. Douglas +20 more
TL;DR: Among patients with a clinical duration of AF of ≤5 weeks, recovery of atrial mechanical function appears related to the mode of cardioversion: a more prompt return of atrium mechanical function was seen in patients undergoing successful pharmacologic cardioversion versus those undergoing successful electrical cardioversion after unsuccessful pharmacological cardioversion.

Left Ventricular Hypertrophy in Athletes
Pamela S. Douglas,Mary L. O'Toole,Sarah E. Katz,Geoffrey S. Ginsburg,W.Douglas B Hiller,R H Laird +5 more
TL;DR: Values outside of these cutoffs in an athlete of any age probably represent a pathologic state.

Evaluation of left atrial appendage anatomy and function in recent-onset atrial fibrillation by transesophageal echocardiography
David N. Rubin,David N. Rubin,Sarah E. Katz,Sarah E. Katz,Marilyn F. Riley,Marilyn F. Riley,Pamela S. Douglas,Pamela S. Douglas,Warren J. Manning,Warren J. Manning +9 more
TL;DR: Patients with recent onset AF and LA thrombi or spontaneous echo contrast have more dilated LA andLA appendage anatomy, and more depressed LA appendage systolic function.
