Intra-urban differences of outdoor thermal comfort in Ghent on seasonal level and during record-breaking 2019 heat wave
TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive analysis of meteorological (air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and global radiation) and outdoor thermal comfort (OTC) conditions (Physiological Equivalent Temperature and Mean Radiant Temperature) was carried out in six Local Climate Zones (LCZs) in Ghent (Belgium) on annual and seasonal level (2017 and during two heat waves (moderate in 2017 and record-breaking in 2019).

Wheat yield estimation from NDVI and regional climate models in Latvia
Astrid Vannoppen,Anne Gobin,Anne Gobin,Lola Kotova,Sara Top,Lesley De Cruz,Andris Vīksna,Svetlana Aniskevich,Leonid Bobylev,Lars Buntemeyer,Steven Caluwaerts,Rozemien De Troch,Natalia Gnatiuk,Rafiq Hamdi,Armelle Reca Remedio,Abdulla Sakalli,Hans Van de Vyver,Bert Van Schaeybroeck,Piet Termonia,Piet Termonia +19 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that NDVI time series and RCM output enabled regional crop yield and weather impact monitoring at higher spatio-temporal resolutions than regional statistics.

Climate Sensitivity to Land Use Changes over the City of Brussels
Gwenn Cugnon,Steven Caluwaerts,François Duchêne,Rafiq Hamdi,Piet Termonia,Sara Top,Thomas Vergauwen,Bert Van Schaeybroeck +7 more
- 01 Jan 2019
TL;DR: In this paper, simple, extreme yet realistic adaptation measures are proposed in terms of changes in albedo and vegetation fraction for different periods in the future using the greenhouse gas scenario RCP8.5.
Engaging Schools to Explore Meteorological Observational Gaps
Steven Caluwaerts,Sara Top,Thomas Vergauwen,Guy Wauters,Koen De Ridder,Rafiq Hamdi,Bart Mesuere,Bert Van Schaeybroeck,Hendrik Wouters,Piet Termonia +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented an approach for addressing the existing observation gaps based on an intense collaboration with high schools, which resulted in the establishment of a region-wide climate monitoring network of 59 accurate weather stations in a wide variety of locations across northern Belgium.
