A software product's acceptance depends on the user experience that it provides to its users. The software product must meet the user needs, and one way to understand those needs is through creation of Personas. The Personas technique allows describing the users' characteristics, goals and skills. The Empathy Map (EM) method can be used to describe personas. The EM's goal is to create a degree of empathy with the user so the product developing team starts to understand more deeply the users and become more aware of their real needs. To assess the EM effects on the creation of personas, we conducted a feasibility study with 20 subjects. Initially, the subjects learned how to describe personas in textual form. After that, they applied the EM to create personas. After using the EM, the subjects answered a questionnaire about their perceptions regarding the EM's ease of use and its usefulness. The results showed that majority of subjects considered EM useful and easy to create personas. Furthermore, this majority also said that they would use the EM for the creation of personas again. This paper presents the results of a feasibility study where the EM is employed for the creation of personas. In this study, we evaluated the perception of the subjects regarding to ease of use and usefulness of the EM for the creation of personas. Through the analysis of the results it was possible to obtain the user"s perception regarding the use of EM. In addition we identified improvement suggestions for the Empathy Map. The remainder of the paper is organized as follows. Section II presents the User Experience, Personas and Empathy Map concepts. Section III details the feasibility study, followed by our results in Section IV. The Section V shows the validity threats of the feasibility study. Finally, conclusions and comments on future work are given in Section VI.

User experience framework that combines aspects, dimensions, and measurement methods

User experience describes the experience gained by users when using software products. Focus on the needs and emotions of users when using a product is one of the keys to the success of a software. As a software product, Student Academic Information Systems have an important role to improve services to students in Higher Education. Measurement of user experience aims to determine the experience gained by users when using the Student Academic Information System. Measurements were made using the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) on 179 active student of a higher education institution in Pekanbaru. The results obtained for each aspect of UEQ are 1.395 attractiveness, 1.586 clarity, 1.380 efficiency, 1.392 accuracy, 1,347 stimulation and 0.847 novelty. The lowest value is in the novelty aspect. The novelty aspect needs to be a concern because users feel the monotonous and usual novelty so that it has a negative impression value. The results of this study can be used as recommendations for designing a new Student Academic Information System user experience.

Evaluasi User Experience Sistem Informasi Akademik Mahasiswa pada Perguruan Tinggi Menggunakan User Experience Questionnaire

The user experience related to a product can determine its success or failure. As a result, companies have invested in research to understand what the user feels when he or she uses a product, but it is not simple to get this information, and many approaches arose through the years. This article presents a systematic review on the user experience evaluation field, based on 25 studies. We found (1) that psychophysiological measures are not yet widely applied in the evaluation of the user experience; (2) researchers prefer qualitative approaches; (3) the evaluations are mostly manual (not real time, therefore), and using ready-made products; and (4) most studies used single measurement, not considering the use of the product over time. This scenario shows an opportunity for UX evaluation methods which consider the use of the product over time and provide real time results.

A Systematic Review About User Experience Evaluation

The three-volume set LNCS 9746, 9747, and 9748 constitutes the proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Design, User Experience, and Usability, DUXU 2016, held as part of the 18th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2016, in Toronto, Canada, in July 2016, jointly with 13 other thematically similar conferences. The total of 1287 papers presented at the HCII 2016 conferences were carefully reviewed and selected from 4354 submissions. Design, User Experience, and Usability: Design Thinking and Methods

The focus on users' needs and emotions while interacting with products is a key factor for product success. As the field of User Experience (UX) explores these needs and their fulfilment, it gains in importance against the background of the wish for human-oriented products and services. In order to avoid product failure, the UX of a product should be considered in very early stages of development when there is only a first concept or product idea. However, an empirical UX evaluation seems to be quite difficult at a time when only abstract product concepts are available. This paper presents a new method for transferring concepts into "fictitious product experiences". The method has been tried out in two studies focusing on the potential UX of new products. The results show that this new approach enables users to evaluate the potential UX of products in their daily routines. Moreover, the method is promising for identifying new product attributes and even new product ideas based on a positive UX.

In diesem Beitrag wird eine Methode zur formativen Evaluation des Nutzungserlebens (User Experience) vorgestellt: die Valenzmethode (Burmester et al. 2010 in Druck). Als theoretische Basis dient das User-Experience-Modell von Hassenzahl (2008, 2010). Nutzer geben wahrend einer Explorationsphase kontinuierlich an, ob sie positive oder negative Gefuhle erleben. Die Instanzen werden im Rahmen einer retrospektiven Befragung naher untersucht. Geklart wird, welche Gestaltungsaspekte Ausloser fur die Gefuhle waren. Mit Hilfe der Laddering-Befragungstechnik wird zudem ermittelt, welche personliche Bedeutung die Gestaltungsaspekte fur die Nutzer hatten und welche menschlichen Bedurfnisse ihnen zugrunde liegen. Die qualitative Auswertung der Teilnehmerauserungen bietet ein tieferes Verstandnis der Erlebnisaspekte von Gestaltung und zeigt Optimierungsmoglichkeiten auf.
