This chapter reviews the literature about the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which is an information systems models theory that explain how users come to accept use a technology determined. The model suggests that when users are presented with a new technology, a number of factors influence their decision about how and when they will use it. While TAM is one of the most influential models used in the studies of the technology acceptance and empirically proved to have high validity, it must be used to a certain extent with caution, because with the internationalization of companies, there is a growing need to understand how cultural factors can affect the ability of a multinational organization to adopt and use information technologies. This model provides a foundation for further research to understand why users accept or reject information technology and how to improve the acceptance.

A aceitacao e o uso de tecnologias da informacao e um assunto que tem recebido a atencao de pesquisadores e profissionais na area de Ciencia da Computacao, Sistemas de Informacao e Ciencia da Informacao, visto que trabalham na perspectiva de que um sistema bem desenvolvido sera utilizado, pois partem do pressuposto que boas solucoes em software, podem trazer vantagens competitivas as empresas e/ou aos individuos. Entender porque as pessoas usam ou rejeitam computadores tornou-se um dos mais desafiadores temas em pesquisas sobre os sistemas de informacao. Na literatura, e possivel identificar diversas teorias que tentam prever o impacto da tecnologia no comportamento humano, contudo nesse artigo faremos uma breve revisao de literatura sobre tres teorias que se destacaram como teorias de aceitacao de tecnologia. Sao elas: Theory of Reasoned Action – TRA; a Theory of planned behavior – TPB e finalmente o Technology Accepentace Model – TAM, modelo que sera nesse trabalho, detalhadamente explicado, pois e o mais conhecido e utilizado na area de sistemas de informacao.

A Tecnologia da Informacao influencia o trabalho intelectual e de pesquisa nas varias areas do conhecimento. Nas bibliotecas a tecnologia e utilizada atraves dos Sistemas de Informacao para armazenar, manipular, filtrar e gerar informacao de forma rapida e eficaz. O presente trabalho pretende colaborar para o aprofundamento do conhecimento sobre algumas questoes fundamentais no uso de Sistemas de Informacao em bibliotecas. Busca compreender e identificar melhor os determinantes e barreiras de usabilidade, que leva a nao interacao usuario/sistema. O estudo foi conduzido a partir de um levantamento bibliografico, comparando conceituacoes de pesquisadores da area, numa abordagem critica. Como resultado destacamos que a biblioteca podera ter seu espaco ampliado pela capacitacao dos bibliotecarios e usuarios no manuseio dos Sistemas de Informacao.O dinamismo do profissional bibliotecario seja como orientador no uso do Sistema de Informacao, seja como executor da pesquisa, tambem e um minimizador das barreiras de usabilidade.

Sistemas de informação em bibliotecas: o comportamento dos usuários e bibliotecários frente às novas tecnologias de informação

This research aims for the deepening of knowledge concerning key issues in the use of the information systems that make up the Virtual Health Library (VHL). The research was conducted on undergraduate students of the medicine courses from medical schools in the Recife (PE) metropolitan area, the theoretical model adopted was the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). This work is characterized as a descriptive and exploratory research with survey and literature review on the subject. The data collection was performed through the application of a questionnaire. The data collected demonstrated that the users were trained but the training was not appropriate. Analysis from the information architecture on the VHL website, detected problems in its structure. It was identified that the construct perceived usefulness had the greater relevance in the acceptance of the systems by it users. The study also demonstrated which external factor influenced in the system usage intention. The teachers were considered the most encouraging factor for the use of the system by the students. It was detected that there is an intention to use the VHL system in the future by the respondents. In regard to the user satisfaction degree, it was observed a high level of dissatisfaction with the services offered. Further research may draw comparisons between different types of users. The study helps to understand how organizations can establish a relationship with its customers, because satisfaction it is not enough, it is necessary to enchant them.
