A method for implementing a graphics pipeline. The method includes building a first shadow map of high resolution, and building a second shadow map based on the first shadow map of lower resolution. The method includes determining a light source affecting a virtual scene, and projecting geometries of objects of an image of the virtual scene onto a plurality of pixels of a display from a first point-of-view. The method includes determining a foveal region when rendering the image, wherein the foveal region corresponds to where an attention of a user is directed. The method includes determining a first set of geometries is drawn to a first pixel, determining the first set of geometries is in shadow based on the light source, and determining the first set of geometries is outside of the foveal region. The method includes rendering the first set of geometries using the second shadow map.

A special-purpose hardware device for achieving intraframe image processing in head-mounted displays may include an image-correction component that receives a single image frame destined to be displayed for presentation to a user wearing a head-mounted-display system. The image-correction component may also receive user-motion data indicating that the user wearing the head-mounted-display system has made at least one movement since generation of the single image frame. The image-correction component may further perform hardware-accelerated intraframe processing operations on the single image frame in accordance with the user-motion data to compensate for the movement made by the user on a line-by-line basis. In addition, the special-purpose hardware device may include a frame-output interface that feeds the single image frame to a display device of the head-mounted-display system to facilitate displaying the single image frame for presentation to the user. Various other apparatuses, systems, and methods are also disclosed.

A data processing system for providing an output surface for display. The data processing system includes rendering circuitry operable to generate one or more input surfaces to be used for providing an output surface for display. The rendering circuitry is operable to generate a peripheral region of an input surface at a lower fidelity than the fidelity at which a central region of the input surface is generated or is operable to generate one of a plurality of input surfaces at a lower fidelity than the fidelity at which another of the plurality of input surfaces is generated. The data processing system also includes display composition circuitry operable to select part of at least one of the one or more generated input surfaces based on received view orientation data to provide an output surface for display.

Improvements to graphics processing pipelines are disclosed. More specifically, the vertex shader stage, which performs vertex transformations, and the hull or geometry shader stages, are combined. If tessellation is disabled and geometry shading is enabled, then the graphics processing pipeline includes a combined vertex and graphics shader stage. If tessellation is enabled, then the graphics processing pipeline includes a combined vertex and hull shader stage. If tessellation and geometry shading are both disabled, then the graphics processing pipeline does not use a combined shader stage. The combined shader stages improve efficiency by reducing the number of executing instances of shader programs and associated resources reserved.

A method and system for automatically detecting a location is provided. The method includes receiving by a vehicle, data describing a specified geographical area of a collapsed structure. A received control signal enables control of the vehicle such that the vehicle initiates motion and navigates in a specified direction towards the specified geographical area and upon arriving at the specified geographical area, a size and a magnitude of the collapsed structure is determined via sensors of the vehicle. A center location of the collapsed structure is determined and the vehicle hovers above the center location. Geographical coordinates of the location above the center location are transmitted to a search and rescue system and the center location is scanned via ground penetrating radar. Open spaces within the collapsed structure are determined and scanned to locate living entities within the open spaces.

Other embodiments are disclosed and claimed.

In one example, the start time for the rasterizer to process a row of blocks of image pixel data uses the number of graphical objects to rendered into the output image and the processing times required by prior images.

Systems, apparatuses and methods may provide for technology that determines a stencil value and uses the stencil value to control, via a stencil buffer, a coarse pixel size of a graphics pipeline. Additionally, the stencil value may include a first range of bits defining a first dimension of the coarse pixel size and a second range of bits defining a second dimension of the coarse pixel size. In one example, the coarse pixel size is controlled for a plurality of pixels on a per pixel basis.
