The partitioning of complex surfactant mixtures between oil/water/microemulsion phases at high surfactant concentrations
A. Graciaa,Jean Lachaise,J.G Sayous,P Grenier,S. Yiv,Robert S. Schechter,William H. Wade +6 more
- 01 Jun 1983
TL;DR: In this paper, a model describing the partitioning of surfactant molecules between excess and microemulsion phases which are in equilibrium is proposed, which leads to a relatively simple mathematical formulation which can be used to study the effect of varying the overall system surfactants concentration and of changing the system water-to-oil ratio.

Criteria for structuring surfactants to maximize solubilization of oil and water
TL;DR: In this paper, the general phase behavior of selected alkyl benzene sodium sulfonates was studied with the aim of determining specific factors which will enhance solubilization of oil and/or water in microemulsions.

Microemulsion formation with branched tail polyoxyethylene sulfonate surfactants
Masahiko Abe,David S. Schechter,Robert S. Schechter,William H. Wade,Upali P. Weerasooriya,S. Yiv +5 more
- 01 Dec 1986
TL;DR: In this paper, pure monoisomeric surfactants have been synthesized with the objective being to formulate cosolvent-free middle phase microemulsions at ambient temperature and at any required electrolyte concentration.

Emulsion stability and phase behavior for ethoxylated nonyl phenol surfactants
TL;DR: In this paper, the phase behavior of H 2 O/alkane/ethoxylated nonyl phenols was mapped for systems with added electrolyte and alcohols, and the phase boundaries were mathematically described in terms of the variables, HLB, alkane carbon number, concentration of electrolyte, and temperature.

HLB, CMC, and phase behavior as related to hydrophobe branching
Alain Graciaa,Y Barakat,Mahmoud El-Emary,L. Fortney,Robert S. Schechter,S. Yiv,William H. Wade +6 more
- 01 Sep 1982
TL;DR: In this article, an alternative to HLB is proposed which defines a surfactant's properties based on the optimal alkane needed for the appropriate phase behavior of the appropriate surfactants.
