Implementation and outcomes of a transfusion-related acute lung injury surveillance programme and study of HLA/HNA alloimmunisation in blood donors.
Laura Porretti,Alessandra Cattaneo,Elena Coluccio,Elena Mantione,Federico Colombo,Mariagabriella Mariani,Georgia Bottelli,S. Mazzucchelli,M. Pappalettera,Tiziana Speranza,Maurizio Migliari,G. Cambiè,Daniele Prati,Paolo Rebulla +13 more
TL;DR: The recently adopted national policy to prevent TRALI, i.e. using only plasma donated by males, would have had a positive impact in this setting and the frequency of HLA or HNA alloimmunisation in blood donors was 29% for females and 7% for males.

PKC induces internalization and retention of the EAAC1 glutamate transporter in recycling endosomes of MDCK cells.
TL;DR: It is shown that stimulation of protein kinase C by phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) treatment induces a time-dependent decrease in glutamate transport activity due to relocalization of the excitatory amino acid carrier 1 (EAAC1) glutamate transporter from the apical surface of polarized epithelial Madin-Darby canine kidney cells to intracellular compartments.

Evidence of distinct tumour-propagating cell populations with different properties in primary human hepatocellular carcinoma
Federico Colombo,Francesca Baldan,S. Mazzucchelli,Ines Martin-Padura,Paola Marighetti,Alessandra Cattaneo,Barbara Foglieni,M. Spreafico,Silvana Guerneri,Marco Baccarin,Francesco Bertolini,Giorgio Rossi,Vincenzo Mazzaferro,Massimiliano Cadamuro,Marco Maggioni,Luca Agnelli,Paolo Rebulla,Daniele Prati,Laura Porretti +18 more
TL;DR: Individual HCCs can harbor different self-renewing tumorigenic cell types expressing a variety of morphological and phenotypical markers, karyotypic evolution and different gene expression profiles, which suggests that the models of hepatic carcinogenesis should take into account TPC heterogeneity due to intratumour clonal evolution.
Amniotic Mesenchymal Stem Cells: A New Source for Hepatocyte-Like Cells and Induction of CFTR Expression by Coculture with Cystic Fibrosis Airway Epithelial Cells
Valentina Paracchini,Annalucia Carbone,Annalucia Carbone,Federico Colombo,Stefano Castellani,S. Mazzucchelli,Sante Di Gioia,D. Degiorgio,Manuela Seia,Laura Porretti,Carla Colombo,Massimo Conese +11 more
TL;DR: The data show that amniotic MSCs have the potential to differentiate into epithelial cells of organs relevant in CF pathogenesis and may contribute to partial correction of the CF phenotype.
