Rotational bands in the doubly odd nucleus 134Pr

A ${K}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}{=8}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ collective rotational band has been established upon the 6 $\ensuremath{\mu}$s isomeric state in the very neutron-deficient nucleus ${}^{138}\mathrm{Gd}.$ The band was observed using a technique involving the correlation of $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray transitions across the isomeric state. The single-particle configuration of the isomer has been deduced from the $\ensuremath{\Delta}I=2$ to $\ensuremath{\Delta}I=1$ intensity branching ratios. In addition, a series of other $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray transitions were observed which are reasoned to be part of a higher-lying four quasiparticle structure which decays through the ${K}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}{=8}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ isomeric state. The properties of the ${K}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}{=8}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ band are discussed in relation to the systematic properties of ${K}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}{=8}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ bands in the neighboring $N=74$ isotones.

Detailed spectroscopy of the normally deformed states in 132Ce

An isomer with a half-life of 6{plus_minus}1 {mu}s has been observed in the N=74 nucleus {sup 138}Gd, populated following the reaction {sup 106}Cd({sup 35}Cl,p2n){sup 138}Gd. The isomer decays via a 583 keV E1 transition with a hindrance per degree of K forbiddenness, f{sub {nu}}=24. This value is similar to the values measured for the N=74 isotones {sup 134}Nd and {sup 136}Sm but markedly different from that measured for {sup 130}Ba. This suggests that there is some change in structure across the N=74 isotones and possible explanations of this feature are discussed. {copyright} {ital 1997} {ital The American Physical Society}

Character of an 8− isomer of 130Ba

Six rotational bands have been established in 136Sm following heavy-ion induced reactions carried out at the Nuclear Structure Facility, Daresbury. The yrast band has been observed up to Ipi =(24+) and undergoes three band-crossings. A band was observed built on the low-lying 2+ gamma-vibrational state, in addition to two negative parity sidebands built on two-quasiproton excitations. A dipole band showing the characteristics of collective oblate rotation was also established. The results are discussed in terms of total Routhian surface and cranked Woods-Saxon model calculations.
