TL;DR: In this article, the role of self-directed learning strategy in promoting critical thinking and problem solving skills among Social Studies students were discussed and suggestions were made, which encourages the development of critical thinking through discussion, negotiations and clarifications of basic content or ideas because students enjoy the liberty to advance their own ideas and to benefit from the ideas and views of others.

Socio-Cultural Factors Affecting the Teaching and Learning of Social Studies in Nigeria
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined socio-cultural factors in Nigeria that affect social studies teaching and learning and recommended that multicultural education should be conceptualized into the school content, social studies teachers should handle religious and cultural topics objectively, and teachers should be analytical and impartial in approaching such sensitive issues.
