Construction of solitary wave solutions to the nonlinear modified Kortewege-de Vries dynamical equation in unmagnetized plasma via mathematical methods

Magnetized test ions are subjected to acceleration through a numerically simulated oblique double layer in order to determine whether they emerge with velocity vectors aligned with or oblique to the ambient magnetic field. A criterion for oblique alignment, depending on the double-layer parameters and on the external magnetization, is obtained. When it is applied to observed and theoretical auroral double layers, this criterion predicts that accelerated heavy ions will be substantially less magnetic field aligned than will accelerated hydrogen ions, thus suggesting auroral double layers as a source of high-energy ion conics. Test particle simulations are also used to investigate the perpendicular heating of ions at low altitudes by the electric fields associated with moving auroral arcs. The rapid motion of small-scale structures in the arces is suggested as a source of low-energy conical ion distributions, and the slow drifts of the entire arc forms are inferred to heat ionospheric ions.

By using reductive perturbation technique we have studied the linear and non-linear properties of ion-acoustic solitary structures in a three-component plasma containing non-thermal electrons and Boltzmann positrons and a comparatively cold ion which has got a streaming motion. The Korteweg–de Vries equation has been obtained and the dependence of small amplitude solitary structures on various plasma parameters such as streaming velocity (v0), non-thermal parameter (β), reciprocal of electron temperature (χ), positron density (p), Mach number (M), and ion density (δ) have been studied. The possibility of formation of enveloping soliton and its characteristic features are further investigated by deriving the non-linear Schrodinger equation.

Study of small amplitude ion-acoustic solitary wave structures and amplitude modulation in e-p-i plasma with streaming ions

In this research paper, the authors have studied the properties of ion-acoustic solitons and double-layers in a plasma consisting of warm positive and negative ions with different concentration of masses, charged states and non-thermal electrons using small amplitude approximation. Reductive perturbation method is used to derive KdV and m-KdV equations. Existence of ion-acoustic solitons and double-layer is explored over a wide range of parameter space. The role of non-thermal electrons characterized by finite $\beta$
 is investigated. It is observed that for a particular value of $\beta$
 , there is a transition from compressive to rarefactive solitons. However, when $\beta$
 is increased beyond a critical value, no double-layers are obtained. The significance of relative ion masses is also investigated.

Evolution of cylindrical/spherical shock formation in a dusty plasma with nonadiabatic dust charge variation

The propagation of nonlinear dust cyclotron (DC) cnoidal waves having superthermal distributed electrons and ions in the presence of external magnetic field and adiabatic dust charge variation is investigated. The effect of dust charge variation is profoundly modified due to the presence of the superthermal electrons and ions. The dust charge variation parameter decreases with an increase in the superthermality index of ions. Adopting the reductive perturbation approach, it is shown that the dynamics of the cnoidal structure is modeled by a Korteweg–de Vries equation. It is found that only negative potential DC cnoidal and solitary structures are observed in such a plasma. The results further reveal that the cnoidal structures strongly depend on the degree of superthermality, dust charge variation parameter, temperature and number density of fluid particles, angle of obliqueness, as well as on the magnetic field strength. The numerical results confirm that as the dust charge variation enters the picture, amplitude as well as the width of the cnoidal waves enhances. Furthermore, the analysis is performed through Sagdeev potential, plane phase plot and spatial variation of potential to elucidate various aspects of the cnoidal wave dynamics in the presence of the adiabatic dust charge variation.
