Analysis, optimization and design of a series-parallel resonant converter

A modified series-parallel high-frequency resonant DC/DC power converter configuration suitable for 48 V output is proposed. A simplified steady-state analysis using complex circuit analysis is presented. Based on the analysis, a simple design procedure is given. Detailed experimental results obtained from a MOSFET-based 1 kW converter are presented to verify the analysis. The converter presented has almost constant efficiency from full load to quarter load. The variation in switching frequency required to regulate the output voltage constant is narrow, and the converter has load short-circuit capability. >

A 48 V output DC-to-DC resonant converter suitable for telecommunication applications

The object of this paper is to present the steady state analysis of a high-frequency resonant (load commutated) inverter which employs LCC type commutation circuit. The different modes of operation are explained. Fourier analysis method is used to analyze the circuit under steady state conditions, for continuous current mode of operation. The analysis is used to predict the performance of the inverter and to develop the design curves for the selection of inverter components. A simple design procedure is presented and illustrated by a design example. A computer program was developed to evaluate the performance of the inverter and test results are compared with the results obtained from a prototype experimental unit.

Steady state analysis of a high-frequency inverter using LCC type load commutation

The characteristics of a carrier-based pulse-width modulator under different modulation techniques are evaluated. Modulation with the most commonly used carrier waveforms (triangular and sawtooth waveforms) and sampling methods (uniform, double and natural sampling) is studied. In each case, the switching harmonics at the modulator output are calculated and the frequency response of the modulator is determined. Different modulation techniques are then compared, and the one that best suits switchmode magnet power supply applications is identified.
