High-spin states in doubly odd ${}^{176}\mathrm{Re}$ were investigated by means of in-beam $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy techniques using the multidetector array GASP. Excited states of ${}^{176}\mathrm{Re}$ were populated using the ${}^{165}\mathrm{Ho}{(}^{16}\mathrm{O},5n)$ reaction at a beam energy of 101 MeV. Seven rotational bands have been observed and their configurations have been discussed. Alignments, band crossing frequencies, and electromagnetic properties have been analyzed in the framework of the cranking model. Signature inversion phenomena in the $\ensuremath{\pi}{h}_{11/2}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}\ensuremath{\nu}{i}_{13/2}$ and $\ensuremath{\pi}{h}_{9/2}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}\ensuremath{\nu}{i}_{13/2}$ structures are discussed. In the latter case signature inversion is traced to a large repulsive matrix element of the $p\ensuremath{-}n$ force acting in the maximally aligned $J=11$ state.

High-spin states in doubly odd 176 Re and signature inversion in π h 9 / 2 ⊗ ν i 1 3 / 2 structures

High-spin states have been populated in odd-odd {sup 186,188}Au via the heavy-ion {sup 171,173}Yb({sup 19}F,4{ital n}) reactions at 93--94 MeV. Rotational bands built on 11{sup {minus}} oblate {nu}{ital i}{sub 13/2}{sup {minus}1}{direct product}{pi}{ital h}{sub 11/2}{sup {minus}1} structures have been observed in both nuclei, similar to those reported in {sup 190{minus}194}Au. Two new strongly coupled bands in {sup 186}Au are interpreted as prolate {pi}{ital h}{sub 9/2}{direct product}{nu}{ital i}{sub 13}2 and {pi}{ital i}{sub 13/2}{direct product}{nu}{ital i}{sub 13/2} configurations. Based on blocking arguments a band crossing in the latter structure is attributed to the alignment of {ital h}{sub 9/2} protons. Measured {ital B}({ital M}1;{ital I}{r arrow}{ital I}{minus}1)/{ital B}({ital E}2;{ital I}{r arrow}{ital I}{minus}2) ratios are compared to predictions of the Doenau and Frauendorf geometrical formalism extended to odd-odd cases.

Nuclear data sheets for A = 184

Rotational bands in the odd-odd nucleus $^{182}\mathrm{Ir}$ and in the odd-mass isotopes $^{181,183}\mathrm{Ir}$ have been studied via the fusion-evaporation reactions $^{172,174}\mathrm{Yb}$${(}^{14}$N,xn) utilizing \ensuremath{\gamma}-ray spectroscopy techniques. The different band structures in $^{182}\mathrm{Ir}$ are interpreted as specific couplings of proton and neutron single-quasiparticles present in neighboring odd Ir and Os and Pt nuclei.

The nature of the first band crossing in the heavy rare-earth region is an important open spectroscopic problem. Both {ital h} 9/2 protons and {ital i} 13/2 neutrons are likely to be responsible for this phenomenon. The results of a double blocking experiment in {sup 178}Re strongly suggest that in fact a pair of {ital h} 9/2 protons and of {ital i} 13/2 neutrons are simultaneously playing a role.
