Insights into the superhydrophobicity of metallic surfaces prepared by electrodeposition involving spontaneous adsorption of airborne hydrocarbons

Large-scale fabrication of superhydrophobic polyurethane/nano-Al2O3 coatings by suspension flame spraying for anti-corrosion applications

The superhydrophobic surface was successfully prepared on aluminum alloy 6061 by anodization and lauric acid modification. The reaction was carried out for 1 h in a 0.3 M H3PO4 electrolyte at a voltage of 60 V to construct a honeycomb pore-needle microstructure with a water contact angle (WCA) up to around 160° and a sliding angle (SA) less than 2°. The chemical composition of superhydrophobic surface was characterized by energy disperse spectroscopy (EDS) and Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FTIR). And the result indicated that lauric acid was successfully combined on the surface of the oxide layer. Besides, the superhydrophobic surface exhibited good anti-icing property, and the reason for its delayed icing time was given from the Cassie equation and the classic nucleation theory. Moreover, the superhydrophobic surface exhibited low adhesion, excellent self-cleaning function, good thermal stability, mechanical stability and corrosion resistance.

Fabrication of superhydrophobic surface on aluminum alloy 6061 by a facile and effective anodic oxidation method

Reversible superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic surfaces based on porous substrates covered with CuO nanowires are developed in this study. A facile thermal oxidation method is used to synthesize non-flaking bicrystalline CuO nanowires on porous copper substrates in static air. The effects of thermal oxidation temperature and duration are systemically studied. The growth mechanism of the obtained non-flaking CuO nanowires is presented and the compression stress is believed to be the key driving force. The wettability of the CuO nanowires after chemical modification with trichloro(1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyl)silane is systemically investigated. The porous substrates covered with CuO nanowires exhibit excellent superhydrophobic performance with almost no water adhesion and no apparent drag resistance, and a maximum static water contact angle of 162 ± 2° is observed. Moreover, a rapid reversibly switchable wettability between superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic states is realized by the alternation of air–plasma treatment and surface fluorination. The porous substrates covered with CuO nanowires will find promising applications in surface and corrosion protection, liquid transportation, oil–water separation, and self-cleaning surfaces.

A non-aqueous electrodeposition process for fabrication of superhydrophobic surface with hierarchical micro/nano structure

The invention discloses an electrochemical method for preparing a super-hydrophobic surface on a copper substrate. The electrochemical method comprises the following steps: 1) polishing copper substrates by using 800 particle-size and 1200 particle-size waterproof abrasive paper in turn, washing the copper substrates with distilled water and absolute ethyl alcohol in turn, drying the copper substrates by using an electric blower, and standing by; 2) adding potassium hydroxide and potassium peroxydisulfate into the absolute ethyl alcohol, thereby obtaining a solution A; 3) dropwise adding a material with low surface energy into the absolute ethyl alcohol, thereby obtaining a solution B; 4) placing the solution A as electrolyte into an electrolyzer, respectively taking the two dried copper substrates as an anode and a cathode, and electrolyzing; 5) washing the anode copper substrate after being electrolyzed with absolute ethyl alcohol and clean water in turn, and then placing the cleaned anode copper substrate into the distilled water and soaking for more than 2 hours; and 6) uniformly coating the solution B on the soaked anode copper substrate, and then drying in the air, thereby obtaining the copper substrate with the super-hydrophobic surface. A contact angle of the super-hydrophobic surface prepared according to the method provided by the invention is above 162 degrees.
