In this paper, we propose a minimum mean square error (MMSE) sorted QR decomposition (SQRD) based soft-input soft-output (SISO) detection algorithm for coded multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems. The proposed detection is derived from the SISO MMSE detection, which is a popular detection strategy for iterative receivers. For each transmitted symbol in the proposed detection, a soft successive interference cancellation (SIC) is performed based on a posteriori probabilities of past detected symbols. Simulation results show that the proposed detection, while needing less computational efforts, achieves significant performance gain compared with the SISO MMSE detection.

MMSE SQRD based SISO detection for coded MIMO-OFDM systems

This paper analyzes the performance of cyclic prefixed single-carrier transmission under multi-user interference (MUI). For multi-user receivers using single carrier frequency domain adaptive antenna array, we derive the signal to interference plus noise ratio by analyzing the time domain estimated signal after the transformation from frequency domain to time domain. By assuming the MUI follows the Gaussian distribution, we can derive the analytical expression for the bit error rate (BER) performance. The analytical result is verified by the numerical results generated by Monte Carlo method. It is concluded from the analytical results that if the number of receive antennas goes to infinity as assumed in massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system, the BER performance will be determined by two ratios: signal to noise ratio as well as the $N_r$ to $U$ ratio, where $N_r$ is the number of receive antennas and $U$ is the number of users.

From frequency domain to time domain: performance analysis on cyclic prefixed multi-user single-carrier transmission

Traditional single-carrier frequency domain equalization (SC-FDE) systems assume time-invariant channels that are difficult to realize in underwater acoustic (UWA) communication over block-based durations, leading to inter-frequency interference (IFI). Currently available approaches to resolving this issue involve shortening the block or inserting frequent training sequences at the cost of additional information from the channel and reduced spectral efficiency. This paper proposes an iterative subblock-based receiver algorithm that divides each time-varying block into multiple quasi-static subblocks. The designed receiver has a two-step structure consisting of block processing and cascaded subblock processing, where the former generates prior symbolic knowledge and the latter iteratively weakens IFI. We consider smoothly variant channels between adjacent subblocks and track them using a Kalman filter, leading to a more accurate estimation of the IFI and better equalization. The proposed algorithm was tested through simulations and experiments in Qiandao Lake and the Yellow Sea using blocks of different lengths and numbers of subblocks and elements in the array. The results provide a low bit error rate.

In this paper, we analyze the frequency domain linear equalization (FDLE) of single carrier block transmission (SCBT) systems under fast fading channel. First, we propose a new approximating model in which the channel is assumed to be static in sub-blocks vary each other. Based on this model, we derive a new 2-orthogonal-sub-blocked frequency domain equalization method. Then, we derive the conditions of the channel under which the equalization method can be applied to the 2-orthogonal-sub-blocked systems. Simulation demonstrates that the proposed method can improve the anti-Doppler ability of SC-FDLE and at the same time keep its high efficiency and low complexity.
