Reservoir characterization and multiscale heterogeneity modeling of inclined heterolithic strata for bitumen-production forecasting, McMurray Formation, Corner, Alberta, Canada
Allard W. Martinius,Allard W. Martinius,Milovan Fustic,David L. Garner,B.V.J. Jablonski,Rudy Strobl,James A. MacEachern,Shahin E. Dashtgard +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated bitumen reservoirs dominated by inclined heterolithic stratification formed in large point bars of the Aptian (Lower Cretaceous) McMurray Formation in the northwestern part of the Corner oil sand lease (Alberta, Canada) were investigated to establish their value.

Fluvial to tidal transition zone facies in the McMurray Formation (Christina River, Alberta, Canada), with emphasis on the reflection of flow intensity in bottomset architecture
TL;DR: In this paper, an outcrop of the McMurray Formation along the Christina River (Alberta, Canada) has been investigated to better understand depositional processes and setting, which points to a rather strong vortex circulation and related strong and persistent main flow velocity.

Impact of reservoir heterogeneity on oil migration and the origin of oil-water contacts: McMurray Formation type section, Alberta, Canada
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the processes leading to the formation and preservation of exposed oil, water, and paleo-gas contacts at the McMurray Formation type section, Alberta, Canada.

Sedimentological Criteria for Distinguishing Stacked Dune-trough Muds from Muds in Inclined Heterolithic Strata in the Subsurface - Insights from McMurray Formation Outcrops and Modern Analogues
Milovan Fustic,Robert W. Dalrymple,Rudy Strobl,Bryce Jablonski,Eirik Vik,Allard W. Martinius +5 more
- 01 Jan 2013
TL;DR: Both dune-trough (also known as dune bottomset) mud deposits and muds in inclined heterolithic stratification (IHS; Thomas et al., 1987) are deposited in the same depositional systems including fluvial, tidal, and tidally influenced fluvic systems as mentioned in this paper.

Elongate tidal bar, amalgamated sub-tidal channel and estuarine point-bar successions of a sand-dominated open estuarine system; integration of outcrop and subsurface data, McMurray Formation, Ft. McKay, Alberta
Rudy Strobl,Milovan Fustic +1 more
- 01 Jan 2013
TL;DR: In this paper, Wightman et al. integrated outcrop with subsurface borehole data to map and interpret the reservoir quality on a well-pad scale, which can be used to further refine SAGD geomodels to help with mapping the 3D geometries and demonstrate utility of outcrops for interpreting geology from core data.
