Optimal Fuzzy Control of Batch Polymerization Reactors: Application to PMMA Production for Biomedical Purposes
Nádson M.N. Lima,Lamia Zuñiga Liñan,Felix S. Farias,Flavio Manenti,Rubens Maciel Filho,Marcelo Embiruçu,Maria Regina Wolf Maciel +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an advanced control methodology based on fuzzy models and GA was developed to control the temperature of a pilot-scale jacketed batch reactor in which methyl methacrylate polymerization takes place.

Influence of Non‐Condensable Gases on the Dynamic Behaviour of an Auto‐Refrigerated CSTR Polymerization Reactor
Eduardo Coselli Vasco de Toledo,Rogerio Favinha Martini,Maria Regina Wolf Maciel,Rubens Maciel Filho +3 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a model of the polymerization process was developed, taking into account the influence of non-condensable gases in the system, and the results obtained showed that the model developed was able to reproduce the major dynamic characteristics, even with the presence of noncondensable gas.

CFD Study of Chemical Vapor Deposition Reactor for Synthesis of PHEMA
Marcele Fonseca Passos,Aulus R. R. Binelli,Jardini L. A,Carmen Gilda Barroso Tavares Dias,Rubens Maciel Filho +4 more
TL;DR: In this article, a simulation of a CVD reactor during the synthesis of poly 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (PHEMA) and initiators is presented, through of the release of the gaseous 2-HEMA and initiator in a single step without the use of solvents or volatiles.

Simulation of anhydrous bioethanol production process using efficiency correlations for conventional and extractive distillation
Tassia L. Junqueira,Marina O.S. Dias,M.R. Wolf-Maciel,Rubens Maciel Filho,Carlos Eduardo Vaz Rossell +4 more
- 01 Jan 2010
TL;DR: In this article, simulations of the complete separation process in anhydrous bioethanol production were carried out in Aspen Plus ®, which includes distillation and rectification columns as well as an extractive column.
Reduction in the amount of sulfur in waste oil using reactive molecular distillation
Melina Savioli Lopes,Felipe de Oliveira Gonçalves,Milena Savioli Lopes,Rafael Firmani Perna,Rubens Maciel Filho +4 more
TL;DR: Petroleum, contains proportions of contaminants such as sulfur, nitrogen, oxygen, and metals, such as nickel, iron, copper, sodium, and vanadium, which can cause cancer as discussed by the authors.
