High frequency of Merkel cell polyomavirus DNA in the urine of kidney transplant recipients and healthy controls
Lucia Signorini,Mirco Belingheri,Federico Ambrogi,Elisabetta Pagani,Sandro Binda,Rosalia Ticozzi,Mariano Ferraresso,Luciana Ghio,Bruno Giacon,Pasquale Ferrante,Serena Delbue +10 more
TL;DR: MCPyV demonstrates an excretion pattern similar to those of JCV and BKV, persisting in the kidney and infecting skin cells upon reactivation, with subsequent integration and transformation.

Viral Genomic Characterization and Replication Pattern of Human Polyomaviruses in Kidney Transplant Recipients.
Lucia Signorini,Maria Dolci,Evaldo Favi,Caterina Colico,Mariano Ferraresso,Mariano Ferraresso,Rosalia Ticozzi,Giuseppe Basile,Pasquale Ferrante,Serena Delbue +9 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that after KTx, HPyVs genome remains stable over time with no emergence of quasi-species, suggesting that viruses detected in the recipient may be transmitted by the allograft.

Particulate matter exposure increases JC polyomavirus replication in the human host.
Maria Dolci,Chiara Favero,Valentina Bollati,Laura Campo,Andrea Cattaneo,Matteo Bonzini,Sonia Villani,Rosalia Ticozzi,Pasquale Ferrante,Serena Delbue +9 more
TL;DR: The environmental levels of PM10/PM2.5 increase the JCPyV viruria, and the need for studies assessing the influence of air pollution exposure on the risk of viral reactivation is emphasized.

Effect of antibiotic-loaded chitosan nanodroplets on Enterococci isolated from chronic ulcers of the lower limbs.
Daniela Mazzaccaro,Rosalia Ticozzi,Sarah D'Alessandro,Serena Delbue,Giovanni Nano,Elena Costa,Monica Argenziano,Roberta Cavalli,Mauro Prato,Nicoletta Basilico +9 more
TL;DR: Nanodroplets, either with or without oxygen, appeared as a suitable platform of antibiotic nanocarriers to enhance the antibacterial effects of Vm against Enterococci, with a decrease in both MIC and minimal bactericidal concentration against Vm-resistantEnterococci strains.

Genotype-based differentiation of the Cryptococcus neoformans serotypes by combined PCR-RFLP analysis of the capsule-associated genes CAP10 and CAP59.
TL;DR: An indirect identification method for Cryptococcus neoformans serotypes was developed using combined restriction enzyme pattern analysis of two PCR-amplified portions of the capsule-associated genes CAP10 and CAP59, which defined for each strain an intrinsically coherent allelic profile closely correlated to the serotype.
