Polygonatum sibiricum, commonly known as Siberian Solomon's seal, is a traditional herb widely used in various traditional medical systems, especially in East Asia. In ancient China, the use of polygonatum sibiricum in medicine and food was mentioned in Li Shizhen's Bencao Gangmu of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It was also used in history of India in Vedic medicine. The plant is rich in bioactive substances such as polysaccharides, saponins, flavonoid and alkaloids.The aim of this review is to understand the pharmacological and pharmacokinetics research progress of the major components of polygonatum sibiricum, and to prospect its potential application and development in the treatment of various diseases.We conducted a systematic literature search against major online databases on the Web, including PubMed, ancient books, patents, PubMed, Wiley, Google Scholar, Web of Science, and others. We select the pharmacological process and mechanism of the main components of polygonatum sibiricum in a variety of diseases, and make a strict but careful supplement and in-depth elaboration to this review.Several studies have demonstrated the strong antioxidant properties of polygonatum extract, which can be attributed to the presence of flavonoids and other polyphenol compounds; for diabetes and other metabolic-related diseases, polygonatum saponins have particular advantages in regulating intestinal flora and lipoprotein concentration in organisms. In addition, the polysaccharides extracted from this plant have a strong anti-inflammatory effect, which is related to its ability to regulate proinflammatory cytokine and mediators. In the aspect of anti-tumor effect, polygonatum derivatives can induce cancer cell apoptosis mainly by adjusting the cell membrane potential and cell cycle. It is worth noting that the combined action of the main components of polygonatum also offers promising solutions for the treatment of the disease.Polygonatum polysaccharide has therapeutic effects on many diseases by adjusting cell signal pathways, polygonatum sibiricum have significant advantages in regulating intestinal flora, inducing apoptosis of tumor cells, activating antioxidant processes, etc. Further research and basic exploration are needed to prove the function and mechanisms of the main components of polygonatum sibiricum on related diseases. The study on the immunomodulatory properties of polygonatum revealed its potentiality of enhancing immune function, which made it an interesting subject for further exploration in the field of immunotherapy.

Improving the biocompatibility and antibacterial efficacy of silver nanoparticles functionalized with (LLRR)3 antimicrobial peptide

Wound healing is a crucial biological process for tissue repair and regeneration, preventing infections and complications. There's been a growing interest in exploring sustainable wound healing strategies in recent years. This review examines the use of green-synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in sustainable wound healing strategies. It highlights the need for innovative approaches and the challenges posed by infections. The current wound therapies and treatments, highlighting gaps in existing methodologies, are evaluated. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art in green synthesis techniques for the synthesis of AgNPs. The properties and characterization of AgNPs are elucidated, providing insights into their efficacy. The biocompatibility of AgNPs in wound healing is also explored, emphasizing safety in medical applications. Green synthesized AgNPs incorporated wound dressings are detailed, showcasing their potential in clinical settings. Challenges and future perspectives are discussed, addressing hurdles to widespread implementation. The conclusion consolidates key findings, offering a synthesized perspective on the potential of green-synthesized AgNPs in revolutionizing current knowledge on innovative approaches for sustainable wound healing practices. 

Advancing Engineered Approaches for Sustainable Wound Regeneration and Repair: Harnessing the Potential of Green Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles

In an age of digitalization, who still refuses to use digital technology? Drawing on nationally-representative Chinese General Social Survey data, this article finds that about half of Chinese households do not actively use the Internet or e-payment systems, despite their ubiquity. This article estimates the effects of socioeconomic resources on these technologies' (non-)use across urban, resident but previously urban, resident but previously rural, and rural hukou household registrations in China. Educational attainment is associated with higher odds of use among rural hukou, but the size of this effect is nearly double compared to urban hukou. Additionally, being female increases the odds of use among urban and resident but previously urban hukou, and lowers the odds of use in rural hukou, but which are attenuated by the mediating effects of education. The results give credence to education as a direct and indirect mechanism for digital skills development, especially for rural households. Individuals proximal to rural living conditions have fewer opportunities to learn about digital technology, resulting in greater dependency on education as a rare source of skills training. Simultaneously, education indirectly creates opportunities for women to learn digital skills by improving chances for higher-status job participation that require information management skills, especially in rural regions where traditional cultural norms constrain opportunities for upward mobility. Ultimately, digital technology non-use is traced not to lack of interest, but to lack of skills development opportunities among the socioeconomically disadvantaged. 

Digitalization in China: who’s left behind?

Natural Rubber Latex (NRL) has shown to be a promising biomaterial for use as a drug delivery system to release various bioactive compounds. It is cost-effective, easy to handle, biocompatible, and exhibits pro-angiogenic and pro-healing properties for both soft and hard tissues. NRL releases compounds following burst and sustained release kinetics, exhibiting first-order release kinetics. Moreover, its pore density can be adjusted for tailored kinetics profiles. In addition, biotechnological applications of NRL in amblyopia, smart mattresses, and neovaginoplasty have demonstrated success. This comprehensive review explores NRL's diverse applications in biotechnology and biomedicine, addressing challenges in translating research into clinical practice. Organized into eight sections, the review emphasizes NRL's potential in wound healing, drug delivery, and metallic nanoparticle synthesis. It also addresses the challenges in enhancing NRL's physical properties and discusses its interactions with the human immune system. Furthermore, examines NRL's potential in creating wearable medical devices and biosensors for neurological disorders. To fully explore NRL's potential in addressing important medical conditions, we emphasize throughout this review the importance of interdisciplinary research and collaboration. In conclusion, this review advances our understanding of NRL's role in biomedical and biotechnological applications, offering insights into its diverse applications and promising opportunities for future development. 

Natural rubber latex-based biomaterials for drug delivery and regenerative medicine: Trends and directions.

Silver Nanoparticles Modified with Polygonatum sibiricum Polysaccharide Improve Biocompatibility and Infected Wound Bacteriostasis

In an attempt to develop new antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) with better biological properties, three AMPs of (LLKK)3 analogues were designed and synthesized. The antibacterial activity, cell toxicity and pepsin stability of the three AMPs were determined, and the antibacterial action of the candidate AMP was analyzed. The results showed that the G(LLKK)3L AMP had the stronger antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) compared to the other AMPs. The hemolytic activity and cytotoxicity of the G(LLKK)3L and G(LLKK)3 AMPs were lower than those of (LLKK)3 and (LLKK)3L AMPs, and the pepsin resistance activity of the G(LLKK)3L AMP was higher than that of the other AMPs. Under the treatment of G(LLKK)3L AMP, the cell morphology of the E. coli and S. aureus was irregular and wrinkled, their cell membrane was damaged, and the synthesis of their cell wall peptidoglycan was inhibited. Additionally, the G(LLKK)3L AMP resulted in a decrease of protein expression and inhibition of DNA synthesis. In summary, the G(LLKK)3L AMP exhibited better biological properties, and it can be used as a therapeutic agent against E. coli and S. aureus.

This article analyses situated uses of digital payment platforms, contributing to the sociology of money, and digital sociology. Our data are video recordings of 256 small-scale transactions, gathered from across four Chinese cities, at grocery stores, supermarkets, street markets, restaurants, and cafes. Our focus is the visibility of money in particular circumstances associated with some WeChat payments. In these cases, payment is made visible via a confirmation screen only seen by the customer. We argue that payment applications provide a good empirical site for understanding how digital media reconfigure ‘the social’ by shaping how monetary information is seen and heard. Rather than eliminating trust, reducing transactions to impersonal semi-automated affairs, we show how mobile payments generate new and complex patterns of economic action. A nuanced language game is described that requires sellers to trust customers are acting in good faith. We show how ‘the social’ is imprinted on this contemporary monetary medium.
