In one embodiment, a control system is adapted to facilitate a change in the ratio of an IVT. In another embodiment, a control system includes a carrier member configured to have a number of radially offset slots. Various inventive carrier members and carrier drivers can be used to facilitate shifting the ratio of an IVT. In some embodiments, the traction planet assemblies include planet axles configured to cooperate with the carrier members. The invention relates to a rotor for an electric motor comprising an essentially cylindrical rotor core having a central aperture and comprising permanent magnets which are embedded in the rotor core and extend essentially like spokes through the rotor core, the rotor core being formed as an integral body and the selected permanent magnets being bridged at their radially inner or outer ends by recesses in the rotor core.

A motor includes a rotor with interior permanent magnets and a stator with teeth wound by concentrated windings. The permanent magnet is split along a plane oriented to the stator, and an electrically insulating section is set between the spilt magnet pieces. This structure allows the permanent magnet to be electrically split thereby restraining the production of eddy current. As a result, heat-production is damped thereby preventing heat demagnetization of the permanent magnet.

A laminated stator core for an electric machine, in particular for a synchronous machine, has a substantially cylindrical bore and a plurality of pole teeth extending radially inwardly in the bore. Each of the pole teeth have an inner free end, with a fixed tooth head affixed to the inner end of each second pole tooth, as viewed in the circumferential direction. A pole tooth with a removable head is arranged between each two pool teeth with a fixed tooth head. For easy installation, windings can only be wound around those pole teeth that have a removable tooth head.

The outer rotor (AR,AT) can be mounted by means of hydrostatic bearings (L1,L2), indirectly by means of a shaft (W), on the stators (SR,ST) of the two drives. Said bearings (L1,L2) are axially arranged inside the outer rotors (AR, AT), presenting a short structural form of the combination drive. Furthermore, the bearings are not located in the magnetic action interstice of the drives, so that they do not influence the capacity of the machine.
