Das zu Beginn der funfziger Jahre von TOYOTA entwickelte Konzept der Lean Production1)realisiert erhebliche Rationalisierungspotentiale,2)so das sich dieses Produktionssystem zunehmend verbreitet.3)Lean Production setzt sich aus den Elementen einer einsatzsynchronen Produktion und Beschaffung, einer kontinuierlichen Qualitatskontrolle und -verbesserung sowie einer internen und externen Kundenorientierung zusammen4) Die Rationalisierungspotentiale dieses Konzeptes begrunden sich aus verkurzten Produktentwicklungs- und Durchlaufzeiten, der Reduktion der Anzahl der benotigten Mitarbeiter und einer Verbesserung der Qualitat.5) Sie lassen sich weltweit und branchenubergreifend belegen.6) Zunachst wurde die Lean Production in den siebziger Jahren von der amerikanischen Automobilindustrie ubernommen.7) Dieser Verbreitungsprozes setzt sich mit Beginn der achtziger Jahre in Europa fort.8)Dabei ist jedoch nicht immer eine vollstandige Ubernahme dieses Produktionskonzeptes zu beobachten, vielmehr werden haufig nur einzelne Strukturelemente in die bestehende Unternehmensorganisation integriert.
