Entrepreneurship is claimed as an important element to stimulate growth and development of most countries. It is also posited that female entrepreneurs took part and played a vital role in the economic development and helped to stabilize the economy particularly during the economic recession periods. Thus, this paper attempts to explore the success factors of women entrepreneurs in Malaysia, one of the developing countries in Asia. In addition, it also examines the challenges faced by these women in conducting their businesses. Interviews were conducted with ten successful female entrepreneurs. The interview results appear to indicate that support from family members is important and contribute to the sustainability of their businesses. In addition, their internal motivation and creativity help them to attract the customers and compete in the market. This study provides information to the regulators and government agencies about the training, support and financial resources needed by this group of entrepreneurs.

Challenges and success factors of female entrepreneurs: evidence from a developing country

The purpose of this paper is to research the meaning of the sustainable development in the innovation economy. Knowledge processes in an innovative economy seem to open up new and varied avenues to be explored in the direction of sustainability. Innovative economic theory in contrast to neoclassical is not derived from the hypothesis that the accumulation of capital is the main driver of economic growth in the knowledge-based economy in the 21st century. This new business logic assumes that the rate of economic growth in the innovation economy depends on the products or services that are incurred as a result of knowledge. The emergence of the internet in the early 90s affected the growth of dot.com online businesses and the emergence of the third wave of capitalism. In the current economic crisis and recession, the consequences of low economic growth will further affect the changes in the global markets. This is reflected in the different behaviors of consumers and resulting in the development of new business models, which includes sustainable development in the innovation economy. The paper examines critical factors that influence the role of new innovative technologies in organizational change to ensure sustainability. Focus on sustainability directs company behavior towards the environmental protection, which presumes the fulfillment of organizational and human needs. Therefore, current demands can be satisfied in the present, but the resources for their fulfillment will be preserved for future generations. In order to realize this goal, the company must invest in assets that provide sustainable development. Thus, it is necessary to be aware of how the final products or processes impact the environment. Assuming that the company complies with sustainable components can be expected to create value added for this item. This added value is not only better society reputation that affects the consumers and, is important for investors but also fulfills the legal obligation. The conceptual paper contributes to the ongoing discussion about the increasingly important role of sustainable development as a major concern for the European Union, companies and NGO’s that have to develop the policies that will enable sustainable growth of the society.

Impact of knowledge management on sustainable development in the innovative economy

In this work, we have outlined a research framework for a new management paradigm, attempting trying to link the main concepts of complexity theory, change management, knowledge management, sustainable development and, cybernetics. We discussed the transition from the industrial era to the postindustrial age. In the development process, nothing is fixed in advance; we can say that it is opportunistic, and adapts to the challenges of the environment, as well as to their effects for and within organizations and society. We saw how the processes of organizational change have occurred as a result of the move to adapt to the changes in the various global and international business environments, and how this transformation has led to the shift towards the present innovation economy. We also pointed out some of the ways in which organizational change needs to deal with sustainability, so that the exploitation of resources, the direction of investment, the orientation of technological development, and the institutional change may be consistent with present needs, without compromising the future.

Complexity Theory for a New Managerial Paradigm: A Research Framework

In this work, we supply a theoretical framework of how organizations can embed complexity management and sustainable development into their policies and actions. The proposed framework may lead to a new management paradigm, attempting to link the main concepts of complexity theory, change management, knowledge management, sustainable development, and cybernetics. We highlight how the processes of organizational change have occurred as a result of the move to adapt to the changes in the various global and international business environments and how this transformation has led to the shift toward the present innovation economy. We also point how organizational change needs to deal with sustainability, so that the change may be consistent with present needs, without compromising the future.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine empirically the causal links among operations strategy (OS), environmental dynamism (ED) and firm performance (FP) within the context of a key emerging economy, Turkey. Design/methodology/approach – Drawing on a structured questionnaire, data for the study was collected from a sample of 211 firms that are listed in the database of the Turkey’s largest 1,000 manufacturing firms. The research framework was tested using partial least squares method, which is a variance-based structural equation modeling approach. Findings – The results indicate that ED is positively and significantly related to OS dimensions. ED is also found to have a strong and positive influence on FP. Some strong support has also been found regarding the effect of OS on FP. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate organisational evolution and change forces that influence the adaptation process.
