SARS-CoV-2 Initiates Programmed Cell Death in Platelets.
Milka Koupenova,Heather A. Corkrey,Olga Vitseva,Kahraman Tanriverdi,Mohan Somasundaran,Ping Liu,Shaukat Soofi,Rohan Bhandari,Matthew Godwin,Krishna Mohan Parsi,Alyssa Cousineau,René Maehr,Jennifer P. Wang,Scott J. Cameron,Scott J. Cameron,Jeffrey J. Rade,Robert W. Finberg,Jane E. Freedman +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors characterized an increased incidence of microthrombosis with hyperactive platelets sporadically containing viral RNA, but it is unclear if SARS-CoV-2 directly alters platelet act...

TL;DR: While platelets clearly express ACE2-TMPRSS2 receptor-protease axis for SARS-CoV-2 infection, the antiplatelet medication aspirin did not prevent thrombosis and death in patients with COVID-19.
Effect of aspirin on short-term outcomes in hospitalized patients with COVID-19.

TL;DR: In this article, the role of platelets in the elevated observed thrombotic risk in COVID-19 and utility of antiplatelet agents in attenuating thromboembolism is unknown.

Diagnostic approach and management of genetic aortopathies
TL;DR: This review aims to address the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and treatment considerations in the key heritable thoracic aortopathies.

SARS-CoV-2 and pulmonary embolism: who stole the platelets?
TL;DR: A patient with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonitis who presented with intermediate risk pulmonary embolism was described, and the possibility of immune mediated heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) was confirmed by laboratory testing and resolved when anticoagulation was switched to a direct thrombin inhibitor.
