The Development of a Checklist for Mine Design Software Aquisition through the Investigation of Current Practices and Technology by John Owen Ennis The integrated mine design is investigated ten years after its initial deployment to the PC computer platform. A review of literature is provided for students interested in computer application in mine planning and orebody modeling. The results of a survey of Nevada gold mines are presented as a snapshot of computer use in the mining industry. Commercial integrated mine software is critiqued and the attributes that define a reliable software are discussed. A checklist is presented to help qualify features o f integrated mine software needed for mine design from project initiation through mine production for the mine engineer assigned to assess and procure a mine software package.

The checklist breaks down software features into the following general categories: the range of map types, availability and flexibility of data files, and evaluation of the program itself, including ease of use, the manual, tutorial, appearance of screens, screen help, error handling, map design flexibility, hard copy output, choropleth classification, and isoline/3-D map options. A discussion accompanies the checklist.
