A method and system for placing an order to purchase an item via the Internet. The order is placed by a purchaser at a client system and received by a server system. The server system receives purchaser information including identification of the purchaser, payment information, and shipment information from the client system. The server system then assigns a client identifier to the client system and associates the assigned client identifier with the received purchaser information. The server system sends to the client system the assigned client identifier and an HTML document identifying the item and including an order button. The client system receives and stores the assigned client identifier and receives and displays the HTML document. In response to the selection of the order button, the client system sends to the server system a request to purchase the identified item. The server system receives the request and combines the purchaser information associated with the client identifier of the client system to generate an order to purchase the item in accordance with the billing and shipment information whereby the purchaser effects the ordering of the product by selection of the order button.

Method and system for placing a purchase order via a communications network

A network-based sales system includes at least one buyer computer for operation by a user desiring to buy a product, at least one merchant computer, and at least one payment computer. The buyer computer, the merchant computer, and the payment computer are interconnected by a computer network. The buyer computer is programmed to receive a user request for purchasing a product, and to cause a payment message to be sent to the payment computer that comprises a product identifier identifying the product. The payment computer is programmed to receive the payment message, to cause an access message to be created that comprises the product identifier and an access message authenticator based on a cryptographic key, and to cause the access message to be sent to the merchant computer. The merchant computer is programmed to receive the access message, to verify the access message authenticator to ensure that the access message authenticator was created using the cryptographic key, and to cause the product to be sent to the user desiring to buy the product.

Network sales system

This invention relates to methods for controlling and monitoring access to network servers. In particular, the process described in the invention includes client-server sessions over the Internet. In this environment, when the user attempts to access an access-controlled file, the server subjects the request to a secondary server which determines whether the client has an authorization or valid account. Upon such verification, the user is provided with a session identification which allows the user to access to the requested file as well as any other files within the present protection domain.

Internet server access control and monitoring systems

A system and method for delivering purchasing incentives and a variety of other retail shopping aids through a computer network, such as by E-mail over the Internet or the World Wide Web. Customers (10) of retail stores can establish a bi-directional communication link with the system, log in (16) to the system, and then elect to browse among available purchasing incentive offers (18, 22), or elect to explore other shopping aids, such as a shopping list generator (26), a recipe center (30), or simply elect to claim a product rebate or to receive product information. If the customer elects to have product information or rebate information delivered, only minimal customer identification is required. For purchase incentives redeemable at retail stores, the customer must provide identification information and must also designate a retailer (12) at which the purchasing incentive can be exercised. For receipt of focused incentives based the customer's past shopping behavior, the customer must also supply a unique customer id., such as a check cashing card number or credit card number, used for in-store purchases. For delivery of a product sample, the customer's name and address must be supplied. The system merges this customer-supplied information (270) with other purchase incentive data (272) and creates a printable graphical image of the purchasing incentive (282) for transmission to the customer. In an alternate embodiment of the invention, the purchase incentive is not transmitted directly to the customer. Instead, the terms of the incentive are transmitted electronically to the retail store (310) designated by the customer, who receives either a token (316) to present at the store or an advisory message. In yet another embodiment of the invention, incentives may be targeted to specific consumers based on a consumer purchase history (502), and transmitted to consumers' computers (510) using electronic mail addresses stored in a consumer database (506).

System and method for providing shopping aids and incentives to customers through a computer network

A computerized system for forming a network of buyers and vendors for processing requests for quotation for goods and services including storage means containing the identification of network members, means for network buyers to generate a request for quotation for goods and/or services, means for transmitting the request, filter means for selecting appropriate network members to receive the request based on filter conditions defined by the buyer and/or by the vendor and/or by the central processing unit, and means for responding to the generator of the request for quotation with either a response to the request or with a list of selected network members. Filter conditions may define the class of vendors in terms of geographical location, quantity, language, currency, special conditions of sale, and the like.

Computerized quotation system and method

A computerized order entry system for the placement of an order by a user via a terminal having a display is disclosed. The system includes a data capture mechanism for capturing order information and a storage device for storing the order information captured through the data capture mechanism. The system also provides a user interface for providing the user with access to a plurality of buttons representing a plurality of corresponding order entry functions. Each button is associated with an order entry function window having at least one data capture field into which order information related to the corresponding function may be captured. The user interface includes a mechanism for automatically routing the user to a particular order entry function window upon selection of the associated button. With such a configuration, placement of the order is substantially user-driven.

A customer contact management system is described. The system can be customized in order to provide custom contact types and sub-types for the types of contacts relating to individual customers, groups of customers, and business entities. User preferences may be defined to further customize the system to provide the most convenient and time efficient searching, entry, and response actions. Prior contacts can be searched and located by generating filter criteria through the order-independent selection of contact types, contact sub-types, customer identification, and customer contact dates. Records detailing the nature of the customer contact can be stored, whether the contact is user-initiated, system-initiated, or customer-initiated. Internal messages and scripted messages are provided to assist the user of the system in conducting customer service activities. The number and frequency of the internal and scripted messages can be altered according to the experience level of the user.

A computerized system and method for providing event-driven routing to provide user assistance and marketing functions in an order entry system is provided. One or more user-initiated events capable of being recognized by the computer are defined, as are one or more application points. Each of the application points is associated with at least one of the user-initiated events. An action is assigned to each of the application points. The actions assigned to a particular application point are dynamically invoked upon initiation of the user-initiated event associated with that application point, so the user is provided with the action at a point during the placement of an order at which the action is needed.

Computerized event-driven routing system and method for use in an order entry system

A computerized source searching system and method for the placement of an order for at least one offer via a terminal having a display is disclosed. The system includes system storage for storing offer information, and for storing electronic reproductions of offer sources corresponding to the offer information. The system includes source searching capabilities for locating an offer source, including a display for displaying electronic offer source images, a filtering mechanism for displaying electronic offer source images corresponding to entered source search criteria, and a selection mechanism for selecting one of the electronic offer source images displayed. One or more of the offers associated with the selected electronic offer source image can be located by displaying a segment of the electronic offer source image, and selecting one or more offers in that segment. A user can thereby locate an offer by searching through an electronic equivalent of the offer source used by the person placing the order.
