The document controlled workflow techniques are provided that can be represented by refinable Petri nets. A document may contain a control code that indicates to the document controlled workflow system to implement specified operations (i.e., functions) at a refinable place. The operations implemented at the refinable place are determined by the control code in the document. An author of the document can customize a document controlled workflow system of the present invention by entering a control code into a document that triggers the implementation of operations customized to that particular document at a refinable place in the document workflow system. The operations specified by a control code in a document can be represented by a refinement network.

Document controlled workflow systems and methods

Techniques for designing and processing a workflow that can be refined or modified based upon information associated with a document processed by the workflow. Since the author of the document may configure the information associated with a document that is used to determine if a workflow is to be modified, the present invention enables a document author, in addition to the workflow designer, to control processing of a document in a workflow. The documents themselves specify portions of the overall processing within a workflow net. Permissions information may be specified for the workflow and for the documents. The permissions information may specify which documents can modify the workflow, the manner in which the workflow is modified, and which documents can be processed according to the modified workflow.

Method and apparatus for permissions based active document workflow

The TMN protocol is a secure key exchange protocol for mobile communication system. Its security has been analyzed thoroughly by many approaches, and many attacks have been found. Recently, we have developed a new Coloured Petri Net (CPN) approach to analyze cryptographic protocols, and then applied it to analyze the TMN protocol with the homomorphic property of the underlying public-key encryption. As preliminary analyses, we found two new attacks of the protocol. In this paper, we extend our previous works in two aspects. Firstly, we compare the performance between our new method and a traditional method to analyze attacks in cryptographic protocols. Surprisingly, our method is more efficient when the number of states and traces are large. Secondly, we found three new and interesting variants of our previous attacks.

Security analysis of the TMN protocol by using Coloured Petri Nets: On-the-fly trace generation method and homomorphic property

Micali proposed a simple and practical optimistic fair exchange protocol, called ECS1, for contract signing. Bao et al. found some message replay attacks in both the original ECS1 and a modified ECS1 where the latter aims to solve an ambiguity in the former. Furthermore, Bao et al. proposed an improved ECS1 which aims to prevent all those attacks. In this paper, we present a systematic method to analyze the security of Micali's ECS1 by using Coloured Petri Nets (CPN). By using CPN, we found two new attacks in the original protocol, five new attacks in Bao's modified protocol and surprisingly one new attack in Bao's improved protocol. All these new attacks occur when multiple sessions of protocol execution are performed concurrently.

Security analysis of Micali's fair contract signing protocol by using Coloured Petri Nets : Multi-session case

In this paper, decomposition techniques are used to simplify the analysis of cryptographic protocols using coloured Petri nets to locate security flaws and weaknesses. These techniques exploit the inherent modularity of the Petri net model which is composed of distinct protocol entities, distinct protocol stages, and an explicit intruder model. The intruder model may embody a suite of threat characteristics, which can be used to formulate simple or complex attacks. The methodology is described in this paper and is applied to a one-way authentication protocol with two stages. >
