An object of the present invention is to provide a pigment dispersant in which dispersibility of an azo pigment in a water-insoluble solvent is improved, and to provide an azo pigment composition in which the azo pigment has high dispersibility in a water-insoluble solvent. The present invention provides a compound used as a pigment dispersant and having a structure in which a specific bisazo skeleton unit bonds to a specific polymer resin unit.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pigment preparation based on PY155 (C.I. Pigment Yellow 155) having a high chroma and better fineness and especially for ink-jet uses. SOLUTION: The pigment preparation is based on the C.I. Pigment Yellow 155 and contains 0.1-50 wt.%, based on the weight of the C.I. Pigment Yellow, of at least one pigment dispersant selected from the group of monoazo or disazo pigments substituted with at least one sulfonic acid group. The pigment preparation has a chroma C greater than 53 in the CIELAB system in a solventborne alkyd melamine varnish comprising a 6.7 wt.% concentration of the pigment preparation and/or has a chroma C greater than 35 in the CIELAB system in an aqueous base varnish system in a white reduction comprising a 0.2 wt.% concentration of the pigment preparation in white reduction. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a green-yellow azo coloring agent which has a neutral triboelectric effect, good dispersibility and high thermal stability and which is highly transparent by using an azo pigment essentially comprising C.1 pigment yellow 155 as a coloring agent. SOLUTION: An azo pigment expressed by the formula is used as a coloring agent for an electrophotographic toner which is a liquid toner or powder toner or for a developer, developer powder,. powder coating material. electret material, color filter and ink-jet ink. The pigment having the structure of the formula is commercially available as C.I. pigment yellow 155. This pigment itself is improper for a polyester but shows extremely good properties such as extremely good dispensability and high transparency even in a toner resin essentially comprising a polyester. Moreover,. the pigment is superior in the neutral electrostatic effect. This pigment shows thermal stability at >300 deg.C.
