At the aim to clarify the relationship between the sandbar  formation and lithogeneous sediment discharges, the sedimentological aspects of the Mesjid River Estuary are revealed by various analysis. The samples of bottom surface sediments and the suspended sediment were collected at 50 stations in the estuary using grab and van dorm samplers. Oceanographic observation were also carried out  at the stations. The Mesjid River Estuary receives lithogeneous sediments mainly from the Mesjid River’s drainage areas which play important role on the formation of sandbar which is shown by  a belt-like area (0.5-1.0 m depth) in the area off the river mouth. The sandbar might become a sandbank in 20 to 40 years later. High suspended sediment up to 354.61 mg/l indicates the river mouth receives lithogeneous sediments. Total of 926  ton/day of the sediments supplied by the river are deposited 0.024 m/year into the area.

s The main purpose of this study is to reveal the sedimentary enviroments based on sediment characteristics and relative sedimentation rates. The obtained data are all based on analysis results of core samples taken from the Dumai Coastal Waters located off the north coast of Dumai City Indonesia. Bottom sediment samples were collected at 7 stations in the waters using gravity corer in March 2011. The samples were used for mechanical grain size analysis, ignition loss method, and bulk chemical analysis. In addition, the topmost one centimeter of core samples, which approximately 10 cc of wet sediments, was utilized for benthic foraminiferal study, namely, the study of of L/Tl values to infer the relative sedimentation rates. The Dumai Coastal Waters, Riau Province Indonesia is subdivided into three areas based on the general trend of sediment characteristics and relative sedimentation rates as following: 1) the central part of the waters is characterized by coarse-grained sediments, high relative sedimentation rates and dominantly terrigeneous sediments which under influence of rather strong tidal currents, 2) the eastern and western parts of the waters are characterized by relatively coarse-grained sediments, rather high relative sedimentation rates and relatively high biogeneous sediments which are influenced by longshore currents, and 3) the area off the coast (central part) is characterized by fine-grained sediments, the highest relative sedimentation rates. The area correspond to the boundary between the waters masses derived from Rupat Strait and of from Dumai Waters and is under influence of weak tidal current The distribution of crude oil content in sediments indicate that study area under influence of tidal and longshore currents. Judging from the distribution pattern of crude oil content in sediments, sediments polluted by crude oil were transported northwestward and northeastward by longshore currents and spread toward north by tidal currents, of the Dumai Coastal Waters.

Sediment Distribution Model at Mesjid River Estuary in The Rupat Strait, Riau Province, Indonesia

A Jetty structure was constructed as a berthing facility for 50,000 DWT vessels at Dumai, Indonesia. After the construction finished, the main jetty tends to sway frequently, and this was easily noticed by people who stand on the top of the deck. An investigation has been carried out to identify what causing this problem to check the performance of the jetty. A full review of design and construction documentation, direct observation of existing structures included with field vibration measurement tests and new soil investigation campaign have been carried out as part of the investigation. After the new soil investigation, the soil profile at the jetty location was found to be worse than expected, since the borehole used for design is located 90 m distance from the main jetty and hence can not represent the actual condition (Nugroho et al., 2019). This finding leads to a main concern on the global stiffness of the structure. Remodeling was conducted accordingly to evaluate the actual performance of the main jetty. The result shows a good agreement with data from field measurements (e.g., vibration test) and confirms the earlier concern, whereas this jetty has structural stiffness issue in which may result in sway effect. The structural analysis indicates that the existing main jetty may experience an excessive displacement of more than 100 mm allowable displacement under SLS condition, and hence mitigation measures are needed to be taken.

Assessment and Back Analysis of a Swaying-Jetty in Dumai Indonesia

In this article the author tries to convey about the scope and governance of the marine spatial planning (MSP) and Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) between land and sea environment [1]. Marine spatial planning involves the process of multiple usage of the ocean which mainly includes the energy, industry, recreation, conservation, government [2]. Countries like Germany, US, Belgium, US are making several efforts for the rapid growth of the MSP [3]. The author has not focused mostly on the Integrated Coastal Zone Management, only described bout the approach of MSP. The coastal zone management act was passed in the year 1972, which shows the common and a continued structure for the enhancement and growth of the coastal areas.

by various analytical approaches; i.e. mechanical grain size analysis, ignition loss method, metallic
element analysis and sand grain composition analysis.
The estuary area is characterized by fine sediments (very fine sand to very fine silt). Based on the
relation between the character of bottom sediments and the environmental condition, the the Mesjid River
Estuary and its Environs is divided into the following three areas: 1) The western part of the study area
characterized by rather coarse-grained sediments and low mud content under the influence of longshore
current and poorly sorted sediments supplied by the Mesjid River, 2) The southern part of the study area
characterized by coarse-grained sediments under the influence of strong tidal currents, 3) The northern
and eastern parts of the study area characterized by fine-grained sediments and high mud content under
conditions of sea water masses. The texture and organic matter content of the sediments play important
role on the growth of the mangrove which thrive along the coast of the study area.
